Started from the bottom, now we here π
In 2011, my senior year of high school, I was named a Standout Graduate by my local newspaper. At that time, I knew I had amazing potential, but had no idea where life would take me.
In December 2024, I was honored to be awarded the Young Citizen of the Year award from and for my work and impact at and in the Treasure Valley community! π₯³
Immensely grateful for all the support, encouragement, and recognition. This also came at a very pivotal moment, after my dad passed unexpectedly on October 1st, 2024. Grief has a way of shifting everything. And yet, somehow, it also gave me clarity about what's truly important and the drive to always aim higher. I accepted this award with tears in my eyes, thinking of my dad...because I knew he would've been so proud.
When I transitioned careers from teaching in late 2022, I never imagined I'd go this hard at my new job. In just a little over two years, I have leveled up, gained new skills, and have achieved things I didn't expect. Life has a funny way of bringing what you need to you at exactly the right time.
Career transitions aren't easy. They require faith, grit, and a willingness to start again - sometimes when you're already carrying a lot. But they're worth it.
If you're in a season of transition, growth, or reinvention...keep going. The version of you that's waiting on the other side is worth meeting π±π±

IDAHOANS: Book Bash is this weekend! On June 8th, we'll be having a blast fundraising for Bells for Books, the Treasure Valley's only privately funded bookmobile.
In addition to books in English, we've recently added Spanish books to our collection to help students improve their English and pass their immersion tests at school.
Bells for Books also provides necessities to children and families like hats, gloves, and school supplies.
Bells continues to be an asset for Garden City residents of all ages - join us on June 8th at our Book Bash event to show your support!

After reading "The Great Alone" by Kristin Hannah, I've been wanting to read more of her work. I checked out "Firefly Lane," one of her earlier hits, and found myself hooked again. π
"Firefly Lane" is the story of Tully and Kate, two women who became childhood friends in the 1970s. Their friendship spans decades and takes them through life's ups and downs. π
While I appreciate the premise of the story (and I definitely did cry at the ending)...
βοΈSPOILER ALERTβοΈ
I do not like Tully. She begins as a sympathetic character with a tragic upbringing, but she is a horrible friend to Kate. If I had a friend like her, I would no longer have a friend like her.
Maybe this is me looking at the situation through a 2023 lens, where we have a greater societal understanding of boundaries and healthy vs. unhealthy dynamics. π€
Overall, I give this book a 4/5. Although I found the dynamics frustrating at times, this story demonstrates how fulfilling (and complicated) human relationships can be. The prose, as is Kristin Hannah's style, is also beautiful.
If you've read this book, leave a comment with your thoughts!

Book Review: The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah
I give it 5 stars! βοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈ
This was my first Kristin Hannah read, and it had me hooked:
β
οΈ Set in Alaska and the Pacific Northwest (I'm from Washington and stories set in the PNW always capture my interest)
β
οΈ Beautiful imagery and vivid descriptions
β
οΈ Compelling characters and emotional interactions
β
οΈ Heartbreaking and moving (I started tearing up as I was reading the ending, trying not to cry at the hair salon)
I'm now a big Kristin Hannah fan. Any other books by her that you recommend? Let me know!
