Hi All!

As we close out the end of another busy school year, I reflect on the wonderful opportunities that I have had, to help my students find their own success. In my 36th year of teaching, I am still amazed at the joy it brings me. I always say a parent and a student find me at exactly the right time. When the connection is there, for learning, I marvel at the ability of my students to blossom. Some of my students stay with me, for many years, so I get to see them grow up. Many have gotten married and had kids and I get to see their families, here in Facebook. It's lovely:)

The summer is a great time for parents to read, with their kids. Please check your school website, to see if there is a required summer reading list. If not, enjoy a fun visit to your local library or Barnes and Noble, to pick up some summer favorites. Find that cozy place in the house, by the pool, or at the beach, grab your own book and read along side, with your child. It's up to you to model that desired and expected behavior, for your child.

Please put down the phones!!! Leave the IPAD, for school assignments. I know our summers are grueling hot, so take a walk together, in the early hours or an after dinner bike ride. Get the family off of tech and get moving!!!

Wishing you a summer filled with new discoveries, travel explorations, getting together with families, making new friends, camp experiences and the time to make new memories.

Lastly, please take a few minutes to PRAISE your child, for all of their hard work, this school year. They sit in school, all day and do multiple activities, after school. Then, they come home and do homework. It's a lot to balance. And, of course, KUDOS to all of the parents, for all of their support.

I don't know where the summer went, but SCHOOL STARTS in FOUR DAYS! Everyone is gearing up, getting supplies and winding down with summer fun. My big request is that you start to put your kids down earlier, starting tonight. It's a huge adjustment, to get to bed earlier, get up super early AND sit in school all day AND be able to focus. When I taught in the classroom, I can't tell you how many kids would simply put their heads down and fall asleep, in the mornings. I usually suggest this change, at least a week, in advance.

Also, please double check that your child's 'required summer reading' has been completed. In years past, I have gotten calls from parents, asking if I could read a whole book, with their MS or HS child, in the last week before school started.

Enjoy these last few days of our hot, hot summer.
Please stay hydrated and hug your kids.

To my PARENTS and STUDENTS ~ School year 2024-2025

Congratulations on completing another school year, filled with learning, exploration, discovery and hard work. In Florida, we start school early, in August and finish today. This is your day to celebrate!!!

This completes my 34th year of teaching and I am forever grateful to all of my amazing students, who have graced this desk, filled with determination and fortitude. I have worked with kids, with all sorts of learning challenges. It's my job to help instill confidence, build self-esteem and coach kids to find their strengths. It takes a mutual combination of patience and a love of learning, to help my kids find their own success.

As I sit here, at my desk, and look to my 'Wall of Fame,' to see my huge bulletin board, (crafted by JMG, TY!), filled with faces, smiles and hope, it warms my heart. You know who you are and how hard we worked and my wish is that you take these skills with you, to forge a wonderful life.

I am so proud of all of my students, who come here and allow me to push them beyond what they think is possible. Every time I see the light bulb go off, I know I must continue my quest.

I want to share the importance of continuing academics, over the summer. Please check your child's school, for required summer reading and get it done early. Read with your child, every night. It's a beautiful gift, that will instill a lifetime of learning. Also, take the time to reinforce math skills.

And, by all means, whip up some summer fun, as you have the opportunity to make new memories.

Here we are winding down the 2nd quarter of the school year. The holidays are approaching and it's easy to be distracted. Students are taking midterms, next week.

Hopefully, the teachers have provided study guides, to help their students prep for exams. This is where parents can be a huge help.

Please make some time with your child, to set up a quiet, organized area for studying. Assist your child in getting all of the necessary notes, past tests and quizzes available for review. Make sure the laptop is fully charged, so your child can sign on to Google Classroom, to access notes there, as well.

I prefer to work with a window near by, so you can take a break and appreciate viewing nature. For your ADD child, help them to schedule short sessions of prep, while taking necessary breaks. A bottle of water and some healthy snacks will be appreciated.

Look at the full week schedule, to help plan, in advance, for each exam. I recommend to start reviewing, over the weekend. Yes, I know you have fun things planned, but this is imperative. You want your child to feel confident and prepared, when they walk into a big exam. Remember to praise your child, for their efforts and encourage them to take their time and do their best.

With school just starting, I find this is a great time to help kids get organized. This includes how to set up binders, with dividers and what supplies they actually need to carry every day. Their teachers will request certain notebooks, etc.

I implore you to please supervise how much loose leaf paper your child carries. I cannot tell you how many backpack checks I have done, where I find a whole pack of loose leaf paper, in the bottom or at the end of the binder. Your child's backpack is heavy enough, with their laptop.
