Students continued to add layers of newspaper and colored paper to strengthen their papier-mache balloon project. They developed and shared new techniques for streamlining applications with one another, such as using paintbrushes and sequencing under and overcoats. They displayed a lot of resiliency and perseverance in a long-term project that required multiple layers and obstacles of deflating or popped balloons. They are excited for their projects to dry and transform them into the finished product next week!

“When the month of Adar enters, we increase in joy.”
At our Rosh Chodesh assembly, we began a new initiative to increase joy in our classrooms. Each student received a lanyard containing a mission. The goal of these missions is to add to the joyous atmosphere of our classrooms. Some examples are “smile at a friend,” “invite a friend to sit next to you,” and “help a friend clean up.”... Once a student completes their mission, they pass the task to another friend, so the cycle continues!

Tuesdays with a Morah continues with Morah Leah! 💜

Time flies when you're having fun! We can't believe that today was the 100th day of school. The day was filled with varying activities in celebration of the milestone. So much fun seeing our students dress up as centenarians, in their specially made 100-item t-shirts, or dressed representing their favorite decade. Even our staff got into the spirit. You all looked absolutely fabulous for your “old” age!

Papier-mâché:
Classes continued to enjoy the nice weather outside in the Magical Playground. We gathered around the trees, and each student had fun trying to blow up a balloon as a base form to paper mache. They worked together to prepare newspapers for the first layer and used our collective scraps from the Beautiful Oops trunk for a second layer. Stay tuned to see what our balloons will become next week!

We were having some fun in anticipation of the 100th Day of school. We can't wait to see all of our Centenarians on Monday.

Tu BiShvat Leaf-Inspired Art:
In celebration of Tu BiShvat, the students enjoyed a special art class outside in our beautiful Magical Playground. We gathered around the circle of tree stumps to read “Mother Earth,” a story that personifies the Earth as having grass for skin, trees for hair, and animals as her eyes. Each class spoke about the gifts trees and our planet give us and how we can give back and say thanks for these precious gifts that sustain us. Students were then given time to collect leaves and other nature findings with interesting shapes for their nature-inspired artwork. They were particularly fascinated with “leaf skeletons” that had weathered to their’ bare veins. Using brayer rollers, they rolled over their collectibles with paint and pressed them between two pieces of paper. The results were surprising and magical! 🍂🍁🌿🌳🌴
