Today was a fun day spent with juniors!

Communication is consistently one of the most important skills students will carry with them into college, the workplace, and everyday life. Being able to clearly express an idea is important, but strong communication also means asking questions, reading nonverbal cues, knowing when to speak, AND when to listen!

Today, students participated in two activities. “Describe and Draw” challenged students to recreate an image using only a teammate’s verbal instructions. One round allowed no questions, while the second round allowed students to ask for clarification. This showed them firsthand how much feedback, active listening, and clear and concise directions can improve communication.

We followed that activity with “Read the Room” which took the words away completely! Students had to communicate different emotions and messages using only facial expressions, gestures, posture, eye contact, and body language. It was a great reminder that we are communicating even when we aren’t speaking, and the importance of being conscious of our body language!

These activities were fun (and brought plenty of laughs!), but the skills behind them are very real. Whether students are interviewing for a job, working with a team, speaking with a supervisor, helping a customer, attending college, or navigating everyday relationships, how well they communicate matters. My hope is that students will continue developing these skills and be prepared to communicate with confidence wherever their future takes them!

Friday, our CTE students took learning outdoors for a hands-on learning experience with Boaz Fire Department!

Students learned about fire safety, emergency response, and careers in fire and emergency medical service fields while getting an up-close look at the equipment first responders use every day. They toured the ambulance, learned about different tools and equipment on board, and some even got a ride on the stretcher!

A huge thank you to the Boaz Fire Department for partnering with BHS to provide such an engaging career connected learning experience!

It’s been a busy first couple of weeks at BHS! Last week, Mrs. Butts’ Foundation of Health Science classes put their skills into practice as they learned the importance of proper body mechanics and safe patient care.

Through hands-on activities, students practiced techniques such as safely assisting individuals from wheelchairs, properly turning and repositioning patients in a hospital bed, working together, and using proper body mechanics to protect both the patient and the healthcare provider.

These experiences give our students the opportunity to develop essential healthcare skills, and build confidence as they learn. We love seeing our students learning, practicing, and preparing for careers in healthcare!

Our Boaz High School seniors had a great opportunity to attend the Marshall County College Fair hosted by Snead State Community College today! We traveled to Snead State’s Workforce and Career Institute where students connected with more than 25 colleges, universities, and other post-secondary programs!

Students used their own personal QR code created with StriveScan in order to share their information with colleges of their interest. It was a great opportunity to connect and explore options and start thinking about what their next chapter may look like after graduation!

That’s a wrap on 2026 Boaz Girls Build Camp! Today was filled with more work in the shop completing birdhouses, followed by learning about forestry and tree identification, bedazzling hardhats, and good food and ping pong to close out the day! Thank you to all who helped, including our ag teacher Mr. Cole, neighboring ag teachers Adam Amos and Trey Kincer, and some of our newest FFA officers, Brinlee Bliss and Addison Amos!
