✨ Student Spotlight: Lucas Helderman ✨

Meet Lucas Helderman, a senior at Loogootee High School and an Indiana Uplands Microelectronics Academy student who is gaining hands-on experience through a Regional Opportunity Initiatives UpSkill youth apprenticeship with Artisan Electronics, Inc.

Through the Academy and apprenticeship program, Lucas is building technical skills, exploring career opportunities in microelectronics, and experiencing how classroom learning translates to the real world.

Lucas says:

"This is an opportunity that no other high school student in the area would get to do. For me, it is one of the best experiences and decisions I have made for myself and my schedule. I have learned countless amounts of things that you don’t get introduced to at school, as well as grasping a feel for what you would like to do in the future."

Experiences like these help students discover what's possible while building skills for future careers right here in the Indiana Uplands.

Earlier this month, ROI MOMENTUM participated in the inaugural Smart Automation Certification Alliance - SACA Annual Conference, connecting with partners focused on expanding industry-recognized certification opportunities for the semiconductor workforce.

ROI MOMENTUM is proud to be a SACA member, helping create certification opportunities right here in the Indiana Uplands. New semiconductor-focused certifications are expected to launch this year, and we're excited to share more details as they become available.

Back to school. Bigger than ever. ✏️

The Indiana Uplands Microelectronics Academy is growing!

This school year, the Academy is expanding from three to SEVEN schools and welcoming 28 students, including 16 incoming juniors and 12 returning seniors. 👏

As students head back to the classroom, they'll also be gaining hands-on experience, exploring career opportunities, and building skills connected to microelectronics.

We're excited to see what this year's students accomplish as they continue their journey through the Academy.

As the coordinator and founding instructor for the Indiana Uplands Microelectronics Academy, Joel helps students explore the exciting world of microelectronics through hands-on learning, industry certifications, and real-world experiences.

Joel says: "I enjoy taking big, complex ideas and making them approachable for students. Just as much, I love helping them connect with experiences, mentors, and career opportunities that can change the direction of their future."

From teaching technical skills to helping students gain confidence in their abilities, Joel plays an important role in preparing learners for future opportunities in technology and advanced manufacturing.

Whether students are exploring microelectronics for the first time or building skills for the next step in their journey, Joel enjoys helping them discover what's possible.

This summer, students from the Indiana Uplands Microelectronics Academy stepped into leadership roles during ROI MOMENTUM's Microelectronics Summer Camps, helping guide activities, mentor younger campers, and share their enthusiasm for STEM and microelectronics.

Along the way, they demonstrated that leadership is about more than technical skills. It's about building confidence, encouraging others, and creating opportunities for the next generation to learn and grow.

We're proud to see these Academy and Bloomfield Middle and High School students giving back and helping inspire future innovators right here in the Indiana Uplands.

Innovation starts with curiosity. At ROI MOMENTUM's 4th and 5th grade Summer Camp, students put that curiosity into action through circuits, robots, and cleanroom-inspired activities while discovering how microchips power the technology they use every day.

As junior chipmakers, they designed, tested, and improved technology while building STEM skills and confidence.

Mission completed! 🚨

At ROI MOMENTUM's 2nd and 3rd grade ME Summer Camp, students used robotics and chip-powered tools to complete a rescue and supply mission after a simulated storm disrupted operations.

Along the way, they tested ideas, solved problems, and learned how technology can help people overcome real-world challenges.

Learning is a lot more fun when you're on a mission!
