We embody VT's motto, Ut Prosim. Morgan Dana Harrington was a Hokie. She came to Virginia Tech in 2007, and was brutally murdered in the Fall of 2009. In 2011, Help Save The Next Girl was founded by Morgan’s parents, Dan and Gil Harrington. They wanted to preserve Morgan’s legacy and make change in the world. Virginia Tech is home to the first chapter of HSTNG, and now one of the growing number of
chapters across America. We are relentless against suffering. We strive to make change and goodness out of tragedy and loss. Morgan's family helped found the Morgan Dana Harrington Educational Wing in the Omni Village of Ndola, Zambia. Although she will not be a teacher, many people will be educated because of Morgan. There is a scholarship founded in Morgan’s name at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine. Our chapter focuses on outreach both on campus and at local schools. We are working to help foster the creation of new chapters. We work with the Virginia Tech Police Department to help promote their efforts, and courses they offer like the Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) Social media is an outlet for our organization to spread photo campaigns, and video public service announcements. Coach Frank Beamer is one of our biggest supporters, and has been since the beginning of our chapter. In 2013, Coach Beamer honored Morgan by wearing a 2 - 4 - 1 patch on the field during the October VT vs. UVA football game.
2 - 4 - 1 is a Harrington family motto. It means, “I love you too (2) much, for(4)ever, and one (1) more time.” It is a sign of unconditional love, and something we try to carry with us. Morgan’s life was ended in the Fall of 2009, but because of her family’s relentless efforts, and the efforts of Help Save The Next Girl, Morgan’s timeline continues. Morgan Dana Harrington is still making a positive difference all around this small world in which we live. As one of our most beloved, articulate members, Annalee Marshall, observed, “If you could make a difference, why would you not?”
