When you read to your child, you are not only building their love for reading, but also modeling good oral reading fluency. Children need to listen to how readers read with expression and at a “Goldilocks” rate (not too slow, not too fast, but just right). Reading aloud should be continued even when your child can read independently as it improves vocabulary and serves as a wonderful bonding experience. 📚💕

Learning how to write is more than just penmanship; it is a valuable tool for learning. Handwriting assists brain development by strengthening neural connections, which enhances focus and memory recall. It also boosts reading fluency by creating strong grapheme-phoneme connections. When students are able to write by hand fluently, they free up their cognitive load to think more about encoding, syntax, and getting their ideas on paper. Effective handwriting instruction can be done in 10 minutes a day when explicitly taught using multisensory techniques. 💕📚
