The National Geographic Society, with its iconic science and nature magazine, is an occupational destination for many geographers. Senior Emma Dilic was part of the cartography team this summer, working an internship where she made maps for the online and print publications. Way to go, Emma!

AI is causing some professionals to lose sleep as jobs are threatened, but the vulnerability of a particular occupation is determined by geographical factors, in addition to the intrinsic characteristics of the job. Researchers, including Junghwan Kim from the Department of Geography, created a new index to take additional factors into account when determining a reskilling urgency.

The Blue Ridge Chapter of the American Meteorological Society won the award for Chapter Poster of the Year at the society’s annual convention, held last month in Houston. Posters reflect the work the chapters have done in the region they represent, and their chapters goals in a visually appealing way. Most of the membership of the Blue Ridge chapter are Virginia Tech students, along with a few alumni and meteorology professionals.
