Our Tigers had an action-packed week on the court, course, and floor! Here’s how our athletes competed by day:

Tuesday, September 8

ASL Soccer: Enjoyed a fun afternoon on the pitch! Patience Powell defended the net and scored, joining Blake Koresh, Dustin Clark, Ethan Murch, Hayley Hendricks, and Nina Ferguson (2) on the stat sheet.

Volleyball: Fell 6-25, 13-25, 24-25. Olivia Larkin posted 12 kills, while Gianna Backaus added 6 kills and 3 aces.

Thursday, September 10

ASL Soccer (1-0 win vs. West Salem): Owen Lindow scored the game-winner, while Luci Cuminale and a tough defense held on for the shutout!

Volleyball (3-0 win vs. Arcadia): Swept the Raiders 25-21, 25-16, 25-20! Niyanna McDonald stepped up in her first start, while Olivia Larkin (15 kills) and Gianna Backaus (10 kills) led the attack.

Girls Tennis (4-3 win vs. Viroqua): Zoe Rukavina took #1 singles, and our doubles teams of Morgan Kundinger/Avynlei Christesen, Sienna Koebler/Lilah Ottum and Evelyn Vangen/Taylynn Oliver swept all three spots to seal the team win!

Cross Country: HS Boys placed 6th at Ettrick Golf Course, led by Lukas Cornelius in 12th. Farrah Laufenberg clocked a 25-minute 5K for the girls!

Didn't we tell you that you'd be meeting this year's interns today? We're excited to introduce Morgan, Jada, and Lily—our student media interns for the school year.

These three seniors handle a lot of moving parts behind the scenes, from planning coverage to capturing daily life across our district. Morgan serves as our Red Creek representative, Jada covers Forrest Street, and Lily keeps us connected with the middle school. Because they're based at the high school, they team up to cover high school together.

Organizing schedules, shooting photos, and managing content takes real effort and teamwork. We can't wait to show you the story of our schools through their eyes!

As we mark the 25th anniversary of 9‑11, we remember how that day reshaped a generation. On September 11, 2001, the United States was struck by coordinated attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, with a third attack thwarted by the extraordinary courage of the passengers of Flight 93 over Pennsylvania.

For many young people—including students here at BRFHS—the events of that day and the years that followed left a lasting imprint. A number of our graduates went on to military service and became part of what history now calls the Wars of 9‑11 in Afghanistan and Iraq.

In 2021, the Falls History Project gathered and preserved many of their stories. As we reach this milestone anniversary, we honor their service, their memories, and the way their experiences continue to shape our understanding of that day. Since 2009 when the state ended automatic inflation adjustments, allowed per-pupil funding increases have lagged behind inflation rates. Over the last 17 years, local schools have lost purchasing power.

Education needs have grown, but real dollars available per student have shrunk relative to the rate of inflation. Take a look at the graph to see how per-pupil limits compare to rising economic costs.

Here’s a sneak peek behind the scenes as the first of three media picture days kicked off yesterday. Our new media interns stepped right into action, organizing team lineups and directing athlete poses like pros. (Keep an eye out later this week to meet the intern team!)

Thanks to a generous grant from the Black River Falls Educational Enrichment Fund, our students are taking their sports photography to the next level using brand-new studio flash equipment.

We love seeing our students explore hands-on career skills while capturing Tiger athletics!
