Wednesday: The trough over the eastern US will begin to lift north and east of the area. Drier air will move into the area, which will lead to mostly sunny skies and no rainfall. High temperatures will increase to around 90. Winds will up to around 10 mph from the north. Air quality is expected to remain in the green range for PM2.5 and Ozone. ML

Wednesday, May 9: 108 AQI Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups Ozone

Wednesday: CODE ORANGE AIR QUALITY ALERT FOR OZONE! High pressure will be the dominant weather feature for the Birmingham area. This will create dry conditions and mostly sunny skies. High temperatures will reach the upper 80s. Winds will be southerly at 5-10 mph. The combination of sunny, dry, and hot conditions are expected to push Ozone into the orange range(unhealthy for sensitive groups), which will trigger the issuance of an Air Quality Alert. A morning inversion is expected to develop, which could spike PM2.5 concentrations for several hours but overall for the day will be in the yellow range (moderate). ML

Tuesday: High pressure that brought in the cooler and drier air into the area behind a cold front will control the weather the next few days. Therefore expect clear skies and cool conditions with no chance of rain. Morning lows will be in the upper 40's and highs will top out in the lower 70's. Winds will be out of the NE at 10 mph. These conditions will keep PM2.5 levels in the GREEN range for Tuesday. SS

Thursday: There will be a broad trough extending from Tropical Storm Jose off the NE US coastline to the Gulf of Mexico and a ridge over the Great Lakes Region. While troughing will extend across the area, there isn't much moisture in place so little to no rainfall is expected with partly cloudy skies. The ridge will push high temperatures above normal to around 90°. Winds will be around 5 mph from the north. PM2.5 is expected to remain in the yellow (moderate) range and Ozone is expected to remain in the green (good) range. ML
