Thank you to the for hosting an important panel discussion and networking event to honor International Day of Persons with Disabilities last Friday. Our PR Officer, Lindsay Bowe, participated remotely via Zoom 💻🙋🏻‍♀️ and joined a dedicated panel of stakeholders to discuss advocacy and visibility in the disability community:

Join PHSA on a field trip to the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute. We’ll learn about the history of civil rights here in Birmingham, and consider its impact on the health issues that our communities face today. Afterwards, Dr. Erwin will lead a discussion over lunch— it’s free for those who attend.

‘Pulled Over/Pulled Under’ to be showcased at Sidewalk Film Festival 09/27/2022

We’re screening this AL documentary at our Coffee Hour on Thursday! If you’re interested in policy and its impact on the social determinants of health, this event is for you. After the film we’ll hear from Chloe Cooper, Executive Director of , about how she is tackling debt-based driving restrictions in her community. See you there!

‘Pulled Over/Pulled Under’ to be showcased at Sidewalk Film Festival "Pulled Over/Pulled Under," a 17-minute film directed by Anissa Latham and narrated by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist John Archibald, spotlights Alabama activist Callie Greer and her daughters, who were jailed for not paying traffic fines.

We’re so excited to host a Coffee Hour next week both in-person *and* virtually! First, we’ll watch a short documentary about the devastating effects of traffic-ticket-related incarceration in Alabama. During the second half, we’ll hear from the Kansas City Community Bail Fund Executive Director, Chloe Cooper, about launching a new program to help people facing the same issues in her community.
