Betsy Hopson, Ph.D., MSHA, assistant professor in the UAB Heersink School of Medicine Department of Urology and director of the STEP program, has secured two funding awards to develop SAFE-CIC, a new curriculum that integrates body autonomy, boundaries, and safety into catheterization education for patients with spina bifida.

Supported by an American Urological Association Research Scholar award and a UAB Faculty Development Grant, the project will develop educational resources for patients, caregivers, and providers that expand catheterization teaching beyond technique.

The UAB Heersink School of Medicine Department of Urology at UAB Medicine has launched the Urology Cancer Survivorship Clinic, expanding comprehensive support for patients recovering from urologic cancers.

Led by Morgan Burke, MSN, CRNP, and Sarah Kilgore, CRNP, the clinic provides coordinated follow-up care focused on recovery, quality of life, and long-term survivorship after prostate, bladder, kidney, and testicular cancer treatment.

By creating a dedicated survivorship pathway, the clinic helps ensure patients receive personalized care while improving coordination across the care team—reflecting UAB Medicine's commitment to exceptional patient care from diagnosis through recovery.
