What a GREAT day we had at Jones Valley Teaching Farm & Center for Food Education! Mrs. Hamilton & Mrs. Pettus along with 34 Food & Nutrition students spend a few hours learning about the Civil Rights Movement & how Georgia Gilmore made an impact by the food she cooked and sold to raise funds. Students prepared 4 different Soul Food dishes including Stewed Cabbage, Jackfruit Fried “Chicken”, Red Beans & Rice, and Peach Cobbler.

It was such a wonderful time of learning & experiencing something new!

Thank you to Chelsea Edwards, founder of Huntsville Nutrition Collective for being our first guest speaker this year! Chelsea spoke to our class about her career as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist. We all learned something new!

We had the best day participating in Alabama CTSOs JLDC Virtual Conference! It was a great day learning about how to be a better leader, fear less, give more Grace, ask for help, and build better teams!

Thank you SO much to Chick-fil-A Southwest Decatur for providing our students lunch today while they participated in the Alabama JLDC Virtual Conference!

We are beginning our unit on Dating. Today, we discussed the sequence of relationships. 😊

Our Food & Nutrition classes learned about healthy eating, balanced meals, & MyPlate this week. Students were given a blank MyPlate template and used magazines to cut out pictures of different foods to fill up their “Healthy Plate”. I love how the results turned out! 🥗🍛🍤🍳🎂🍑🍎

This week, students learned the steps of decision making & the importance of making good decisions. Students were able to use their creativity to come up with a comic strip that showed the process of making a good decision.

Positivity Papers 💛 Today, students taped a piece of paper to their backs and walked around the classroom to write positive notes & compliments on each other’s backs. At the end of the activity, students were left with a paper full of kind things about themselves, written by those in their class.
