For Hannah Thomas, patient care starts with trust.

As Hannah prepares to graduate from the UAB School of Dentistry, she reflects on what matters most in the chair. Many of her patients arrive feeling anxious or unsure. Over time, through conversation and compassion, they begin to feel at ease.

One patient told her she could eat steak again after treatment. Moments like that stay with Hannah. They are a reminder that dentistry can change how people live, not just how they feel in the moment.

She says one of the most important lessons she’s learned is to listen closely and help patients feel seen. That connection builds confidence on both sides and shapes every part of the care experience.

If you visit our clinics, you may see students like Daniel Bobbitt learning alongside our faculty as they care for patients.

Now nearing graduation, Daniel brings not only hands-on clinical experience, but also a broader perspective shaped by a recent study abroad experience in Japan – where he observed how dentistry is practiced in different settings and cultures.

It’s all part of how we prepare future dentists to deliver thoughtful, patient-centered care.
