Where Faith And Reason Flourish

06/08/2026

🙏 | Our condolences go out to former JCCHS staff member Sherry Lombardo Rowe ('75) and her family on the passing of her brother, Anthony "Tony" Lombardo ('79). Tony was also employed by John Carroll as an English teacher from 1998-2006. He was a loved member of the JCCHS faculty.

Anthony "Tony" Lombardo (February 7, 1961 - June 3, 2026):

It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the death of our son, brother, nephew, cousin, and friend to all, Tony Lombardo.

Tony graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham with a Masters of Arts degree in education.

He taught at UAB, John Carroll Catholic High School (from Fall, 1998 - Spring, 2006) and retired from teaching at Vestavia Hills High School.

Aside from teaching, music was his love. He taught music for over 45 years at Highland Music and mentored his students for years. He was a highly respected guitarist, banjo player and teacher. His band played venues across Alabama and the south such as City Stages, the Museum of Art, and countless weddings.

Beyond his great talent he was the most loving, kind soul to his large family and friends.

He is survived by his mother Margie Lombardo, sister Sherry Rowe (Kelly), nephews Michael Rowe ('05), and Jason Rowe (Susie) ('10), and numerous cousins and a legion of friends.

His funeral will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows, Homewood, Alabama on Tuesday June 9. Visitation will be at 10:00 am followed by Mass at 11:00 with burial at Elmwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the John Carroll Guardian Angel Fund in memory of Tony > https://www.jcchs.org/support/guardian-angel-fund.

If you would like to share fond memories of Tony you may do so here or mail them to: Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 1728 Oxmoor Rd, Homewood, AL 35209. Please note in the lower left corner of the envelope that it is for the Tony Lombardo family.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

📣 | This year, the estate of David E. McGarity, a proud member of the class of 1973, established a scholarship for a graduating senior at John Carroll. Each academic year, one (1) scholarship of $10,000 will be awarded to a deserving senior who has excelled in academics and demonstrated significant involvement in student government. This scholarship will honor Mr. McGarity, who not only achieved academic excellence but also made notable contributions to the school and its students, serving as class president throughout all four years at John Carroll. The inaugural recipient of the David E. McGarity Memorial Scholarship is Virginia Mann!
