ZOTERO 8 IS ROLLING OUT!

It took me by surprise, but to my delight, Zotero 8 installed itself this morning. It is being rolled out in waves, so it could be a few days for some of you. Here's Zotero's description of changes:

For Zotero users, the Zotero's 7.0.31 update includes a lot of new fields added to the Item Types, eliminating the need to use the Extra field with coded keynames. Here is the announcement:

New item fields and creator types
DOI for every item type
PMID and PMCID for journal articles
Original Place, Original Publisher, and Original Date for books
Publisher and Place for webpages and journal/newspaper/magazine articles
Place for multiple types
Creator (equivalent to Author) for multiple types
Many more...

I don't know if a comprehensive list exists--but you'll notice the difference when you create new research items.

DELETING ZOTERO EXERCISE SAMPLE DATA

Many thanks to the user who pointed out that I have not told you how to remove the sample data, once you've finished my books and are up and running on Zotero.

If you are using the newest book, A Quick Guide to Zotero, you imported your sample data to a collection called "A Quick Guide to Zotero 7." Right-click on the collection and choose "Delete Collection and Items."

If you're using one of my older books, your exercise data was pulled in as a group library. Go to Zotero.org, sign in with your account, and go to the Groups tab. You'll see the book's group there. Choose to Leave Group and the group library will be removed from your Zotero workspace.

WANT TO READ, WRITE, OR TYPE IN A DARK ROOM?

NOTICE OF ERROR IN EXERCISE 3 IN_A QUICK GUIDE TO ZOTERO 7_ BOOK

Those of you who have downloaded the sample data from the Genohistory.com shop have probably encountered an error in Exercise 3. The sample data should have a third subcollection called "My Exercises." It is not there. I will be fixing that and posting the corrected sample data to the shop. But you can fix the problem by simply creating the subcollection yourself. It has no contents until you do future exercises. I apologize for any inconvenience. For any of you who are planning to buy the book, the revised sample data should be replaced within the next 24 hours.
