ONE MONTH TO GO!

The countdown is on! In just one month, Broome County will come together for BC SAFE's 7th Annual Chalk the Walk, Have the Talk Campaign in honor of World Su***de Prevention Month.

From September 10–20, join us in spreading messages of hope, kindness, and connection throughout our community using sidewalk chalk. Every encouraging word and colorful drawing helps normalize conversations about mental health, reduce stigma, and remind others that they matter.

✨ This year's theme: The World Is Brighter With You In It.

We're putting the finishing touches on this year's campaign! Campaign details, chalk pickup locations, participation information, and art contest details are not on our website just yet—but they will be available soon. Be sure to keep checking back over the coming weeks for updates!

Whether you're participating as an individual, family, school, workplace, or community organization, we'd love to have you join us in making Broome County a little brighter.

💙 Together, we can spark conversations, spread hope, and remind everyone that the world is brighter with them in it.

With August already here, its a good time to start thinking about back to school and supporting our students' health!

Promoting mental health and preventing substance misuse is a critical part of overall health and wellness. As part of this mission, we want to equip parents, teachers, and students with resources to foster a mentally healthy return to school: samhsa.gov/school-health

🌿 Hello, August! Happy National Wellness Month! 🌿

This month is a reminder that wellness isn't about being perfect—it's about taking small, intentional steps to care for your mental, emotional, and physical well-being.

Whether it's taking a walk, connecting with a friend, practicing gratitude, getting enough sleep, or asking for support when you need it, every step counts. 💚

Let's make August a month of kindness—to ourselves and to one another. Together, we can build a healthier, more connected community.

On this International Day of Friendship, we're reminded that meaningful connections help us navigate life's challenges. A simple text, phone call, or invitation to spend time together can remind someone they're seen, valued, and not alone.

As we also recognize BIPOC Mental Health Awareness Month, let's celebrate friendships that are built on empathy, respect, and cultural understanding. Creating spaces where everyone feels safe to share their experiences and ask for support is an important part of promoting mental well-being and preventing su***de.

Today, reach out to a friend. Listen without judgment. Check in with someone you've been thinking about. Your connection could make a meaningful difference.

💙 If you or someone you know is struggling, remember that support is available through 988, and no one has to face difficult moments alone.

The words we choose can make a bigger difference than we realize. 💚

Whether you're checking in with a friend, talking about your own mental health, or supporting someone through a difficult time, using respectful, person-centered language helps reduce stigma and encourages open, honest conversations.

Let's continue creating a community where everyone feels seen, heard, and supported. Every conversation is an opportunity to show compassion.

Mental health conditions are health conditions. They can affect how people think, feel, function, relate to others, and manage daily life. Using respectful, specific, and person-centered language can help shift the conversation away from judgment and toward understanding.
