As our hospitality seniors celebrate decision day, we honor their growth and accomplishments. We have no doubt they'll go on to make a lasting impact in their chosen fields.
It's the last day at ICDC! We did the prelim ceremony, had a little fun at the zoo, and showed some love for a Mississippi student running for officer at the closing ceremony. We may not have gotten a trophy, but our students are all fired up and ready to conquer next year.
We are on Day 3 at DECA ICDC, with role play events still underway, providing students with numerous opportunities for networking with peers from diverse locations.

Yesterday in Hospitality Year 2, we had a FUN hands-on activity focused on the importance of clear Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)! πβ¨
Students were divided into four groups:
πΉ Group 1 & 2
Created an animal out of playdough first, then wrote a detailed SOP explaining exactly how to recreate it.
πΉ Group 3 & 4
Wrote their SOP for creating an animal out of playdough without making it first β and only built it after their instructions were complete.
The results? π
Students quickly discovered how important clarity, sequencing, and detail are when writing procedures. Those who built first had to think carefully about how to explain each step. Those who wrote first learned how challenging it can be to give directions without physically testing them!
This activity tied directly into real-world hospitality skills β from writing kitchen procedures to developing front desk protocols. Clear communication matters in every part of the industry!
So proud of the creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills displayed today! πΆπ’π±π

Last week, our Year 2 Lodging, Hospitality, & Tourism students had the incredible opportunity to visit the Gulf Coast Mardi Gras Museum! πβ¨
Students explored the history and traditions of Mardi Gras on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and learned how this vibrant celebration attracts thousands of visitors each year. From stunning costumes and intricate floats to the powerful impact on local businesses, our students saw firsthand how cultural events drive tourism and support the local economy.
Experiences like this help connect classroom learning to real-world hospitality and tourism careers. We are so proud of our students for representing our program so well and engaging thoughtfully throughout the visit! πππ
