Ojai Raptor Center Update on Jackie:

Please know that FOBBV is not a wildlife rehabilitator or veterinarian. We cannot comment on the current medical condition of Jackie or what all the tests have been done on her. Ojai has given us a larger picture of the situation, but not every detail. If you have medical questions regarding her tests or condition, please comment on their Facebook post by clicking on their name in the article.

Sandy and Luna were last seen on camera in the area on 7/23. Though we cannot say for certain, it does look like they may have left the area on their great journey. Here is to a safe and successful life Sandy and Luna. Thank you for letting us get a peek into your lives!

Shadow has been seen around the habitat daily. If the eaglets have moved on, Shadow has no reason to visit the nest or stay within the habitat. This would be considered his summer vacation, and he can hang out and perch wherever he is comfortable.

Once Jackie is released from rehab she will be returned to her home in Big Bear near the nest. We do not know when that will happen. Ojai will make sure she is healthy, able to hunt and protect herself before her release.

We are all concerned and curious about what the future holds for Shadow, only he knows. We can say that Shadow is loyal to his nest, territory and Jackie. He may decide to hold out for the long term, he may find a new mate, or he may even leave the Big Bear area. We can only observe, hope for the best and see what the outcome is.

Moon Camp Update: GOAL MET

We did it together! With your help we were able to raise the $10 million needed to save Moon Camp. Your love for Jackie, Shadow, their chicks and their habitat raised nearly half of the amount and culminating in the total amount being fulfilled thanks to a generous donation of more than $5.5 million from Anna and Greg Brockman. This clears the path for SBMLT to purchase the property and have funds remaining to cover closing costs, taxes, legal fees and help maintain the land.

FOBBV and SBMLT would like to thank everyone that contributed to this cause. The boards and the team wish to recognize Anna and Greg for their amazing generosity for Jackie, Shadow, their chicks and this special place that so many people love.

“Greg and I are grateful to all those who championed saving the home of these majestic eagles, Jackie and Shadow. Like many people around the world, we love watching them be amazing partners to one another and raise their young. They inspire perseverance and a sense of connectedness to something greater, to nature. We are proud to be supportive. We are so appreciative of the San Bernardino Mountains Land Trust and everyone who came together to preserve this incredible ecosystem, the life it will help sustain, and the forest that will be protected for generations to come,” said Anna Brockman.

FOBBV has been working to protect this land for bald eagles and other wildlife for 25 years. You are all heroes and we are grateful for your care, support and strength, especially during this time.

Update on Jackie:

Jackie continues to be alert, perching, eating both assisted and on her own. Jackie is on many medications, and they say that may inhibit her desire to eat on her own. Her energy is improving and she is still being feisty with the staff.

The lead toxicity results show no lead; they are still waiting on zinc levels. There are no real tests for rodenticides, and even though they do not believe that is the issue, they are treating her for that.

She is still severely anemic; they are unable to determine why. Late Monday she had a blood transfusion, and she seems to be holding her own.

Her kidney values have improved.

She was taken in for a CT scan; there are no obvious signs of cancer or any metals in her body.

They have assembled a team of specialists that are working hard to determine the anemia issue. They also want us all to know, she is still in critical condition and can turn in a moment. Please keep Jackie and the rest of her family in your thoughts, sending positive energy and prayers.

UPDATE on Jackie:

An update from Ojai Raptor Center this morning.
They are still waiting on results for any sign of lead, zinc or rodenticide levels. Jackie is anemic and has inflammation affecting her kidneys. They are unsure of the underlying issue causing these symptoms. The center is working with several specialist veterinarians to determine the best supportive care for the moment.

We loved hearing that Jackie has more energy this morning. She is mad and fighting the staff… That’s our Jackie, a strong and mighty eagle!
She is eating well with assistance and is even picking up food on her own. She is still standing up and perching.

They did do x-rays and there were no fishing hooks, sinkers or other metal objects observed.

We will keep updating you the minute we hear any new information. Thank you for your support, well wishes to Jackie and the entire eagle family.

It’s officially confirmed it is Jackie safely in the animal rescue/rehab.

That sub adult has been pestering her and the nest. Not saying that’s what’s wrong but it sure hasn’t helped our 14 year old Queen of Big Bear.
