Applications for Beverly Cultural Council Grants are now open. The BCC gives out grants for projects that will be executed in 2025, and will benefit the community of Beverly. eligible disciplines include arts, humanities and interpretive sciences. Deadline for applications is October 16, 2024.

Call for Artist
Cabot Street Public Art Project

Statement of Purpose
The Beverly Arts District, a partnership of the City of Beverly, Beverly Main Streets and Montserrat
College of Art is proud to announce the Cabot Street Public Art Project at 218-224 Cabot Street. The
Committee seeks proposals for an educational or sustainable inspired installation for a currently vacant
building on Cabot Street. This project is generously funded by a Cultural Districts Incentive (CDI) grant
from the Massachusetts Cultural Council (MCC).

Deadline to submit: Monday, October 23, 2023 at Noon

Who Can Participate?
This call is open to any artist, amateur and professional, you do not need to be a Beverly resident but
preference will be given to Beverly residents (including high school and college students of Beverly
schools). This public art project welcomes participation by artists to submit designs and consult in the
exhibit construction process. The artist for the chosen design will be recognized on or near the exhibit
upon completion, as well as in any online portfolio of public art in Beverly.

Artist Proposals, Project Goals, and Requirements
Applications will be reviewed by a Jury Committee based on feasibility, originality, innovations, and
adherence to the design criteria. The 5 to 7 member Jury Committee will consist of the Arts District lead
partners named above and other members of the Beverly Arts District Partnership Committee to be
selected based on availability, experience, and interest.
The Jury Committee acknowledges that everyone relates to creative forces and art influences
differently. Design proposals should be positive, original, and engaging, and are expected to reflect the
following program goals and requirements:
1. Theme ties into Beverly’s nickname as the Garden City and/or another aspect of the City’s history.
2. Uses sustainable materials, such as native plants or reused materials; or incorporation of sustainable
themes / elements.
3. Educational or interactive aspect that engages the public.
4. Be building and fire code compliant, as applicable.
5. Ability to be built and displayed permanently outdoors and withstand the elements. And, does not
negatively impact the structural, material, or historic integrity of the building.

In addition to the attached application, please submit the following:
- A three (3) page maximum narrative describing the design proposal for the installation.

Calling all artists!

CALL FOR ART for THE RED FENCE GALLERY! Stipend of $300 + up to $100 for materials. Deadline to apply is 9/30/2021 at 5pm.

Beverly Main Streets seeks submissions from artists to install a mural or multi-dimensional piece of art at the Red Fence Gallery. The Gallery is located outdoors on a piece of red fence between Atomic Café (268 Cabot Street) and the Lindsey Building (266 Cabot Street). The fence is approximately 5’ x 4’ and we encourage you to visit it before you submit your application.

The goals of the Red Fence Gallery are to showcase artists in a high-traffic area, to add to the public art scene in Beverly and to entertain visitors to downtown Beverly. The Gallery was launched in 2016 and has had 12 installations to date, eleven of which were paintings done right on the fence and one which was created offsite, framed and hung on the fence.

Special note: this next installation will follow a meaningful and uplifting Black Lives Matter mural by Amanda Beard Garcia that was up for over a year. We are sensitive to the fact that this has been the most public BLM message visible within the city, and your installation will cover it up. We have had banners made of the mural image (with permission of the artist) which will be hung downtown in a rotation of locations for at least 1 year. The BLM mural is still in place but we have included a photo of the red fence without any mural, so you can imagine your own artwork on it.

BEVERLY ESTABLISHES ARTIST IN RESIDENCE PROGRAM
# # # BEVERLY, MA – The Beverly Arts District (BAD) is excited to announce the City’s first Artist in
Residence initiative kicks off this month with a Grand Opening on September 10th. The 2021 Beverly
Artist in Residence Pilot Program will help the City recover from COVID-19 related shutdowns by
increasing pedestrian traffic downtown while also supporting the creative workforce. “We believe
establishing this annual Artist in Residence Program will heighten community appreciation and love of arts and culture and help strengthen our downtown economy.” said Beverly’s Mayor Michael Cahill.

2021 Artist in Residence Pilot Program - Beverly Arts District,
The Beverly Arts District (BAD), through the City of Beverly and its partners, is excited to announce the City’s first Artist in Residence pilot program. Project partners include: Mass Cultural Councill, Beverly Main Streets, Montserrat College of Art, Beverly Cultural Council, The Cabot, Creative Collective MA, and MAPC.

Through this pilot program, the selected artist will be provided with studio space in the Beverly Arts District at no cost to the artist as well as a monthly stipend to support the artist’s work.

The 2021 Artist in Residence pilot program serves to contribute to the recovery of the Beverly Arts District, located in downtown Beverly, from the impacts of COVID-19. The City is seeking one (1) creative individual to fill the position of Artist in Residence, lasting for a term of approximately three (3) months.

The Beverly Arts District, like other arts and culture communities, has been significantly impacted by COVID-19. The City of Beverly believes investing in this creative opportunity will inspire interaction and beauty throughout the COVID-19 recovery. The Artist in Residence will be an essential component in the City’s recovery efforts. We look forward to working with you.

Program Goals
The 2021 Beverly Artist in Residence pilot program addresses multiple COVID-19 recovery
goals:
● Activate a vacant storefront as a part-time artist’s studio and attract foot traffic to the Beverly Arts District.
● Provide stipend to an artist.
● Feature the City’s COVID-19 recovery in art, whether it be in the art pieces, through community engagement, a gallery show,
or preferably a combination of both.

Beverly Artists. Your Input Is needed.

The Metropolitan Area Planning Council, in partnership with the Town of Franklin, City of Beverly, City of Boston, and Town of Arlington, is collecting data from artists and creative workers to help municipalities respond to impacts of COVID-19 on artists, arts organizations, creative activity, and civic life. Please take five to ten minutes to fill out our survey to help the arts thrive in our region! We’ll use the results to assess the effect of COVID on artists and creative organizations and to create strategies for local governments to help.
