🌍 INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY 🌍

Believe in them — because they still don’t believe in themselves.

Today, I’m reflecting on one of the most meaningful chapters of my career: teaching, training and empowering young people.

From the 🇦🇪 UAE to 🇸🇦 Saudi Arabia, 🇺🇸 the United States, 🇪🇬 Egypt and 🇸🇾 Syria, I’ve had the privilege of working with young people from different cultures, backgrounds and walks of life.

Some experiences I will always carry with me:

✨ Teaching 472 high school students Business & Economics in the UAE from 2013–2014.

✨ Being part of the inauguration of the Dubai College of Tourism, where I designed, developed and delivered lectures to 200+ students.

✨ Training many Emiratis entering the private sector through corporate Emiratization initiatives.

✨ Teaching three batches of cadets at the Dubai Police Academy between 2014–2016.

✨ Guest lecturing to 300+ students at the American University in Dubai over the past 14 years.

But beyond the numbers, what stays with me are the faces, conversations, questions, breakthroughs and moments when a young person suddenly realizes: “Maybe I really can do this.”

That is the power of believing in someone.

Young people don’t always need another person to tell them what they should become.

Sometimes, they simply need someone to believe in who they could become.

A teacher can plant the seed.
A mentor can nurture it.
A trainer can give them the tools.
A leader can open the door.

But belief can change everything.

To every young person I’ve had the privilege of teaching, training or mentoring:

I believe in you — even when you don’t believe in yourself yet. ❤️

And to everyone who works with youth:

Believe in them. Invest in them. Give them opportunities.

Because the young person you encourage today may become the leader who changes tomorrow.

GRATITUDE AND ACHIEVEMENTS POST 🤲💪

I’ve had many successes and failures in my life and I’m proud of each and every one of them.

However, the one success I would like to shed light on is training the colonials and lieutenants of the Qatar Army under their Qatar Ministry of Defense.

I must say - I was impressed by the level of education, determination, dedication and commitment these young army men had to truly understand Project Management Excellence. The Qatari Ministry of Defense invested in sending these men to me in Beverly Hills, California in 2023. I welcomed and received three different batches of these army men.

I spent 3 weeks with each batch training them on the processes, required paper trail, and standards of Project Management Excellence.

I also got to know them on a personal level and we built a fruitful partnership together.

It was one of the most noteworthy experiences and achievements of my life.

I am forever grateful for the opportunity and the partnership that we have.

Common remarks I’ve heard in the past:

HR Manager: “Upper-management has decided to cut down on training and development this year and so we don’t have budget for it.”

CEO: “If we provide them with training, they’ll just leave us and go for another job that pays better.”

Business Owner: “They don’t have time to take any trainings; they need to be out in the market achieving sales.”
Companies need to realize that employees deserve to receive training. They should be able to grow in their jobs and careers. They should be able to do their jobs more efficiently with minimal frustration.
They deserve to be invested in.

Never say “I can’t” or “That can’t be done” or “it’s impossible”! 🤓
Rather look at any situation with a growth mindset. A growth mindset allows you to face your challenges proactively, decisively, and with an actionable approach. It makes you believe that your abilities and intelligence can be developed with effort, learning and persistence.
Based on an article on some ways to build a growth mindset:
1. Acknowledge and embrace imperfection in self and others.
2. Face your challenges bravely.
3. Pay attention to your words and thoughts.
4. Stop seeking approval from others.
5. Take a step deeper into authenticity.
6. Cultivate a sense of purpose.
7. Redefine “genius”.
8. Turn criticism around until you find its gift.
9. Value the process over the end result.
10. Learn from the mistakes of others.

Today, my students at the Dubai College of Tourism (DCT) surprised me with a cake and a board with small personalized notes. It made my day.

When I started Leave a Mark Today my mission was to inspire people, develop them and eventually empower them in whatever they aim to do. Some of the notes were so heartfelt and they made me smile because I made a difference in their lives.

I will forever remember them and wish them all the success in their professional and personal lives. In this college, I met some of the most ambitious young potential entrepreneurs that DUBAI is truly lucky to have.

Cheap is expensive.

In business, if you decide to work with suppliers because you got a good price, don’t let that blind you from the standard that supplier has to offer. The standards include: quality, offerings, background, professionalism, success rate and customer service.

Lately, I made that mistake. I asked a branding and marketing company to develop a new brand for me as well as stationary and a media kit. With all honesty, the price was unbelievable. The owner is very capable creatively, but I never knew he would be a disaster customer service wise. He constantly wants to teach me about branding even though he knows I’ve worked for the biggest brands in the world. He constantly argues with me on delivery and deadlines. When amendments need to be made, he makes a fuss out of it. Today, I wish I never worked with him. It’s too late now. I was professional enough to pay him the full amount even though I haven’t received the media kit yet.

But this is a learning for me. Pick suppliers that are at the same standard as you and don’t compromise to save a couple thousand.

You need to understand what your purpose is in life. You need to be aware and evaluate if your purpose is the right purpose for you. The main factors that play in deciding what your purpose is, are:
1. Your strengths
2. Your weaknesses
3. Your time
4. Your capability to achieve
5. Your organizational skills
6. Your goal setting skills
7. Your community or society
8. The expectations people have of you; whether it is on a personal or professional level.
Once you’ve clearly assessed the above, you may move forward and recognize what your purpose is. For me, at this moment or phase in my life, my purpose is to be a good and nurturing mother as well as a successful corporate trainer, business coach and business owner, as well as an accomplished college professor. But if I would put all of the above into one single purpose, my purpose would be: To Leave a Mark on Every Individual that Crosses My Path ❤️

Today I got to spend time with my hero, my father, at his company’s booth, 🔋My father has been working for this company for almost 30 years now! He has taught me the true and vital aspects of being a professional, a goal-driven individual, a persistent worker and an over-ambitious leader. In business, he’s definitely one of my idols! Even though, I was never a good employee like he is, he shaped me to become a successful and driven business owner. At times I believe he lives his aspirations through me 👩‍💼
