We've got great news on this ! 🎉 The Marilyn Monroe Residence has been spared demolition and remains a protected Historic-Cultural Monument (HCM), thanks to a ruling made yesterday.

Following a hearing last week, a judge sided Tuesday with the city of Los Angeles on maintaining the HCM status of Marilyn Monroe's former home, declining the request of its new owners to halt its designation so they could level the property, Bloomberg reports.

Monroe's 1929 Spanish Colonial Revival home at 12305 Fifth Helena Drive holds historical significance as the only home the Hollywood icon ever owned by herself, in a time when just 0.1% of single young women owned a home.

This designation is particularly meaningful as only about 2% of designated HCMs in Los Angeles currently represent women's history. Through the L.A. Women's Landmarks Project—a partnership with the Where Women Made History initiative of the National Trust for Historic Preservation and the L.A. Conservancy—we're working to address the significant underrepresentation of women and their contributions to Los Angeles landmarks.

In January, after the fires devastated our community, we kicked into high gear to find a family that needed a home. Within two days, with the help of our Realtor community friends, we found three generations of Pacific Palisades family from two households who needed to settle somewhere. We then kicked into even higher gear and turned this property into a place that Grandma, her adult children and her grandchildren could call home. They move in today - May Day. It has been our pleasure the be part of the solution and we thank everyone who put their hearts and hands into creating with us. Your hard work and love for your neighbors - even when they are strangers - is evident. It has been such a hard year with so many sad tears; we hope this brings a smile to some aching souls. To our build and design teams - thank you 🙏 thank you 🙏 thank you 🙏- everything about this house is so special and beautiful. And a huge round of applause to Dan for digging in and getting this done no matter what. I love you so very much.
