Most people don't know that they need to do this everyday. I certainly didn't. I really wish that I knew especially when my brother was alive. His life might have been a bit better and longer if he knew this....
You see, I had no idea that we need to have a nervous system hygiene routine. Did you? Or are you more like me and going....what the heck is that?
Well, your nervous system is the foundation for your emotional and energetic communication in your body. Just like your bones are the foundation for your muscles and holding your organs and parts in place and your blood stream is the pathway for delivery of nutrients and oxygen to all of the parts, the nervous system has a job, too.
We all know that we need to eat well, exercise, get rest and bear weights to keep our bones strong. But what do you do for your nervous system? Well, that's a bit of the tricky part....you see all of our nervous systems are set up differently. Our Autonomatic Nervous System gets its information about what is and is not safe from your experiences and the experiences of your ancestors. So, your ANS uses data from your grandparents and your experiences in the womb and what happened to you in early childhood. Since this is different for everyone even siblings or identical twins (although here the difference maybe only slight!), what is supportive for one person might have the reverse affect for another.
Since our experiences with PANS/PANDAS, mold illness and Covid 19, I realized that my nervous system needed daily care. To be perfectly honest, I was rather fried! So, I have been studying and learning about how to care for your nervous system to be a support for others and to help myself.
My routine is simple, just takes a few minutes at the beginning and end of my day. I mainly do some movements that are shown to help with the areas that I need support. I also listen to a specially designed type of music which signals safety to my system. Otherwise, I can feel stuck in a stressed state. It keeps me focused on what matters and less on actions that won't get me to where I want to be or feel.
IF you are wondering, "how do I know if my nervous system is in need of attention?" here's what it might look like....
Anxious and worried
Lots of physical energy like pacing or having a hard time siting still.
Doing a repetitive motion to self soothe such as twirling hair, bouncing leg, or fiddling with something.
Procrastination
Feeling stuck
Having the desire to do something but you just can't seem to get it done.
Brain fog
Struggling to verbally express yourself
Challenges with memory
Restless nights-trouble going to sleep or staying asleep
Easily startled or irritated by sounds/noises
Needing things to be a certain way
Having no zest for life
struggling to connect with others/needing to be alone
Inability to tolerate crowds or busy places
feeling like a dark cloud follows you
There are so many more....
If any of this sounds like you, I am offering a free nervous system assessment to anyone who is interested. Just comment or message me if you would like to learn about what works for your ANS and what doesn't.
