Last week, Rachel Hall, pilot and Director of Aviation Programs at Moravian University, visited Liberty High School to speak with a very captive audience of students interested in aviation. She shared insights into the different pathways to becoming a pilot, as well as the various educational options available.
Students learned a great deal about a career field that isn’t often explored at the high school level. It was especially exciting for students to learn that Moravian will be launching its own aviation program this fall, right down the block from them!
They asked thoughtful questions, and several even followed up with her afterward for additional information and guidance in choosing a program for their future. I am continuously amazed at how busy professionals such as Rachel take the time to take kids they just met "under their wing" and help them with their future goals. The Lehigh Valley is such a special community!

Students often share that they are interested in mental health or psychology, but many are still unsure which specific career path is right for them. Today, a group of those students had the opportunity to learn from Quanesha Johnson of BTG Counseling and Educational Services about the many different directions available within the mental health field. She challenged the common stereotype that therapy is simply talking to someone while they lie on a couch, helping students see the profession in a new light.
She also spoke about how to build a business around your passions, strengths, and personality. To top it off, she offered students the chance to job shadow with her, which is an incredible and uncommon opportunity for high school students.

This week, students at both BASD high schools had the opportunity to learn about the wide variety of healthcare programs available at NCC. Career Readiness Specialist Rachel Fuehrer shared information about the many program options, the high school courses students should consider taking, the grades needed for admission into specific programs, and projected job growth in each field.
Students asked questions about everything from dentistry and sonography to how funeral service programs work. Some even stayed afterward to ask about elective recommendations for high school or to share their future plans. Rachel made it clear that although she represents NCC, much of the guidance she provided is universal, so every student left with valuable knowledge that can help guide their future path.
