BASD Career Pathways

Last year, Olivia joined other students interested in the Communications Pathway for an opportunity to work with Mr. Bittner and Lehigh Valley Public Media on the podcast The Pro-Files. After making her podcast debut, she was eager to continue building her skills and exploring where her talents could take her.

She has since landed her own gig at WDIY 88.1, hosting Teen Money Matters! BASD may have helped make the initial connection with WDIY, but Olivia’s confidence, intelligence, and talent took it from there!

Help us welcome Olivia Mattson as the new host of Teen Money Matters! Olivia is a sophomore at Liberty High School, and excited to join WDIY's Youth Media Program. As an owner of her own tutoring business, Smart To a T Tutoring, Olivia is passionate about teaching financial literacy to younger audiences.

There are some new and exciting things happening with Career Pathways for the 2026-2027 school year!

First, students can complete the Career Pathways Interest Survey to join a pathway community and receive updates, opportunities, and resources tailored to their interests. There’s no commitment, and they can switch pathways at any time!

Then, they can explore the refreshed Career Pathways Guidebook to learn about our five pathways, careers, work-based learning, and how to earn a Career Pathways Cord at graduation.

If students have questions, they can check out our new “Ask a Pathway Guide” form! BASD staff are ready to help with career questions, course recommendations, opportunities, and planning for your future.

Here's another example of the incredible things our students are accomplishing!

Lehigh Valley Public Media partnered with BASD students to create a podcast series that gives students the opportunity to interview professionals from local companies. Through these conversations, students explored each guest's career journey, learned what it's like to work in their industry, and discovered how they can begin preparing for similar careers.

What makes this project even more impressive is that the students did more than conduct the interviews; they researched each company, developed thoughtful interview questions, and even operated the equipment behind the scenes. It was a true hands-on career learning experience.

A huge thank you to Lehigh Valley Public Media for providing our students with this incredible opportunity, and to the local professionals who generously shared their time, experiences, and advice. I'm happy to say that there is more to come!

Special thanks to Mr. Bittner for mentoring the students and guiding them through every step of the process!

Applications are open for our Legal Studies Internship next year! Due to the popularity of the experience, we will be running two cohorts, one in Marking Period 1 and one in Marking Period 3. We’re now accepting applications for semester-long interns for the 2026-2027 school year, as well as for students interested in a one-day summer job shadow to explore the field.
