Casa da Cultura Brasileira EducArte presents Duo Casanoches at Brentwood Arts Exchange for an immersive night of “Latin Classical Psychedelic,” where hypnotic guitar and Brazilian/world percussion carry audiences through Brazil, Cuba, Latin America, and Spain.

Duo Casanoches—guitarist-composer John W. Warren and percussionist Bruno Lucini—blend original works, Cuban boleros, Brazilian bossa nova and afro sambas, and Latin classical gems with dreamy instrumental takes on 60s and contemporary favorites by artists like Radiohead, Massive Attack, Kate Bush, and more. The result is a richly textured, boundary-crossing soundscape that feels cinematic and intimate at the same time, perfect for Brentwood Arts Exchange’s listening-room atmosphere.

As we gear up for another weekend in Wheaton at the Wheaton Arts Parade this Sunday, we’re looking back at our incredible Festa Julina Wheaton in July. Check out this beautiful footage by Jeremy and Pedro Silva 👨🏻‍✈️ 🤩

On July 26, Casa da Cultura Brasileira EducArte brought music, dancing, flavors, and joy to Marian Fryer Town Plaza for our first annual Festa Julina Wheaton. This free, family-friendly festival welcomed approximately 1,000 attendees. Thank you to Felipe Hostins, Flor de Massapê Music Duo, Forró New York, , Batalá Washington 🎶♀️🥁❤️🇧🇷🇺🇸, Capoeira Mutamba US, and Natalia Pela for filling the plaza with music, movement, and a joyful community quadrilha.

We held Festa Julina in Wheaton because it is a central gathering place for Brazilian life in the DC region, where many Brazilian families live, work, shop, and gather, alongside beloved markets, restaurants, bakeries, and small businesses. This is part of our work to create welcoming spaces where Brazilians can share their traditions with pride, and where everyone is invited to experience, learn, and participate.

We’re grateful to the food vendors, artists, and volunteers who contributed to the festival and MoCo councilmembers Will Yemi Jawando and Natali Faní-González for attending and giving remarks. Thanks also to Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County, Wheaton Urban District, Montgomery County Government, and sponsor Chuck Levin’s Washington Music for supporting the event. No dia 26 de julho, a Casa da Cultura Brasileira EducArte levou música, dança e sabores à Marian Fryer Town Plaza para a primeira Festa Julina Wheaton. Esse festival gratuito recebeu aproximadamente 1.000 pessoas. Realizamos o festival em Wheaton porque é um dos principais pontos de encontro da comunidade brasileira na região de Washington, DC, onde muitas famílias brasileiras moram, trabalham, fazem compras e se reúnem, ao lado de queridos mercados, restaurantes, padarias e pequenos negócios.

Oi, sim, sim, sim! We are excited to welcome Capoeira Mutamba US, led by Antonio De Andrade Javali, to our next Sarau de Samba this Sunday! The group will invite us into the roda to see this beautiful Afro-Brazilian martial art/dance. Come hungry to the next Sarau de Samba at Glen Echo Park this Sunday, September 20! We’re excited to welcome The Churrasco The Churrasco, serving Brazilian barbecue espetinhos, and Amazonian Berry Açaí Amazonian Berry Açaí, selling refreshing açaí bowls. Praline Bakery will also be on site selling drinks to enjoy throughout the afternoon. This month, we’ll be outdoors in the Bumper Car Pavilion again. Gather your friends, enjoy great Brazilian food and music, and reserve a table for your group in advance.

Que honra apresentar o Rastapé aqui em Washington, DC Black Cat! A banda matou as saudades do Brasil com suas músicas icônicas, tipo “Colo de Menina” e “Anjo do Céu”, junto com outros forrós, xotes e baiões clássicos. Foi lindo cantar e dançar com todo mundo—muito muito obrigado de coração!! 🫶

What an honor it was to present Rastapé here in DC at the Black Cat! The band brought back all their nostalgic hits, like “Colo de Menina” and “Anjo do Céu,” along with other classic forrós, xotes, and baiões. It was beautiful to sing and dance with everyone—a deep, heartfelt thank you!! 🫶
