Casa da Cultura Brasileira EducArte is proud to host two samba dance workshops with master Afro-Brazilian dance artist, choreographer, researcher, and educator Pablo Guerreiro Pablo Guerreiro on Saturday, August 22, in Washington, DC. Drawing on a career spanning Rio’s Carnival, samba schools, audiovisual productions, and international residencies, Pablo’s research explores connections among samba no pé, orixá dances, the African diaspora, and processes of bodily decolonization, leading to the development of his own unique methodologies for teaching and artistic creation. Recognized for bridging tradition, research, and innovation, Pablo Guerreiro has built a career dedicated to championing Afro-Brazilian cultures, training emerging artists, and crafting narratives that place Black ancestry at the heart of the contemporary arts scene.

Samba dancers, our fall classes are back in two locations starting September 10. Join EducArte’s Brazilian samba dance program on Tuesdays in Rockville The JaM Space and Thursdays in downtown Silver Spring to build solid technique, improve your groove, and experience the joy of samba no pé with a welcoming community.

Each week, we work on footwork, body isolations, posture, and performance skills, learning choreographies designed to help you feel confident dancing samba with live music. We welcome all levels—from absolute beginners to advanced dancers—so you can challenge yourself whether you’re just starting out or polishing your stage presence.

🥁 Our samba drumming classes start up again in Silver Spring on September 10! Join Bateria EducArte to learn Afro-Brazilian samba percussion in a welcoming, high-energy community class at Levine Music’s Silver Spring campus.

In this weekly class, we work on the fundamentals of samba drumming technique and repertoire—the heartbeat of Rio-style carnival music—on traditional instruments like surdo, caixa, tamborim, and more. All levels are welcome: whether you’re picking up sticks for the first time or have some experience already, you’ll build rhythm skills, ensemble listening, and confidence playing in a full bateria.

Classes take place at Levine Music’s Silver Spring campus (900 Wayne Ave, 2nd floor) with easy access by Metro and bus, and all students have opportunities to perform at local festivals and community events throughout the year. Registration for our Fall 2026 samba dance classes is now open! Join us for another semester of dancing with our beautiful instructors, Luy Luy Cortes and Mariana Mariana Triginelli Veloso, on Tuesdays in Rockville and Thursdays in Silver Spring. Classes focus on samba dance technique and groove, including footwork, body isolations, and hip work. We build repertoire to perform with our bateria (samba percussion ensemble) regularly at local events. All levels are welcome!
