In that time, I’ve shot more than 1000 sessions. In other words, I have seen it ALL. I’ve seen meltdowns, wardrobe malfunctions, vomiting, blowouts, and wipeouts. I’ve also seen impromptu dance parties, singing with abandon, full belly laughter, and so many hugs and kisses. My point is that real life will happen during our session, and we’ll aim to say YES to all of it. I promise you, I’ll make yo

u something worth remembering. I believe every person is beautiful and worthy of documentation, and I am here to be a safe place for all kinds of families and all kinds of creative folks. Earlier this summer, I had the pleasure of taking portraits for local author, Chloe Benjamin , in anticipation of the publication of her new book, The Understory.

She was a gem to photograph. We talked about books and cats and Bay Area living. The Understory came out this week, and it’s already been selected as a GMA pick for September. I’m looking forward to reading it myself as it blends so many of my favorite things: a strong female protagonist, mycology, a grief-stricken love story, and some time travel. 😍

Somewhere in the middle of this summer, filled with portrait sessions and brand work, I realized something. These sessions ask something different of me than family sessions do.

With families, there’s a built-in art director that is the kids. They run, they make their parents laugh. Something is always happening that I just have to catch.

With portraits and brand work, it’s quieter. I can be more intentional, more creative. And I’m required to have more of a vision. The person in front of me is waiting for me to tell them what to do.

This has actually made me a better photographer this summer. I’m more patient. More present. And more willing to try new things. I’m taking this into the fall season with me. 🍁

It’s that time of year again! I’m offering three dates of fall mini sessions. September 18 will be at the Letterman Complex in the Presidio, September 25 will happen at the SF Botanical Gardens, and October 12 will be amongst the redwoods in Oakland. 🌲

Mini sessions include 20 minutes of shooting time, 35+ edited images to download, and cost $625. This is a great way to get a handful of beautiful photos with a fraction of the commitment. These dates will go fast, they always do. 🔥

I’ve been a little quiet on here lately. Not because things have slowed down, but because summer was being summer. 😜 Lots of portrait sessions, some very fun brand work, and plenty of slow time with my friends and family.

Oh, hi! It’s been a while since I did an intro post, so here goes…

I’m Allison! I’m the one-gal show behind Allison Busch Photography. Well, that’s not 100% accurate - shoutout to my wonderful virtual assistant . I’ve been running this little photography business since 2011, which I guess makes me a seasoned veteran at this point. 😜

When I’m not being a photography boss, I’m serving “annoying mom” to my two teenage boys and being my husband number one wife. I read like it’s a competition, love my girlfriends in the way they deserve, and spend a lot of time at my beloved third space (shout out .fitnessbayarea ). I’m a pet mom to one elderly dog, two twin sister kitties, and one (not so) wild squirrel named George.

My approach to photography is a mix of lifestyle and portraiture and I serve lots of different folks. ✨ Families, small creative brands, graduating seniors, pregnant people, newborn babies, and singles looking for kick-ass photos for their profiles ✨

Mom booked it. He tolerated it. The photos? Chef’s kiss. 🤌

I love photographing seniors who aren’t sure about this whole portrait thing. Turns out that real, unposed, actually-you energy always wins.

Shot entirely in his own backyard with nothing but natural light and a little patience. No fake smiles. No weird poses. Just him.

And now? His mom adores the images, and he’s got photos that actually look like him — not some stiff, cheesy version of himself he’ll cringe at in 10 years.

This is what San Francisco Bay Area senior portraits can look like when we ditch the pressure and just let you show up. Whether you’re a reluctant senior or the mom who lovingly made the appointment anyway, this is for you.

This senior session was a 100/10! 🔥❤️ Senior portrait sessions are always creatively fun and a breath of fresh air after chasing toddlers (no shade on toddlers, I love you! 😜). Gen Z have marvelous ideas and they know their angles. To boot, this gorgeous young lady has been on the other side of my lens since she was toddler. Now she’s driving and counting the days before leaving for college. 🥹

Thank you to Mother Nature for the gorgeous light, the bursts of wildflowers, and the dreamiest, peachiest, wind-free sunset. 🌅
