Richard is an Advanced NPE / MPE Certified Trauma Recovery Coach - Helping others navigate the trauma I was living the dream. I was at peace with my whole story.

I made my NPE discovery in 1995, at the age of 37, long before the era of recreational DNA testing. At the time I was a married father of two, river guide, and entrepreneur. For seven years prior I had suspected that my biological father was not the man on my birth certificate. The reasons for my suspicions are complex and well beyond the scope of this writing, but suffice to say that they were ba

Hi - My name is Richard McFarland-Dorworth. 25 years ago, after a 7 year quest based on an intuitive flash of insight, I learned that my biological father was not the man who I had been raised to believe it was. I was 37 years old. This discovery, as many of you will know, rocked my world. And the ripple effects extended to my immediate family and beyond, to half siblings and other extended relatives whom I had not yet met. My reunion with my biological father was bittersweet, full of richness and potential. It was also quite challenging in unexpected ways. My relationship with my mother took a bad turn and, sadly, she never forgave me for "outing" her. My own journey included years of therapy, a full blown identity crisis / midlife crisis, a thorough exploration of several forms of addiction and repeated bouts of suicidal depression and manic behavior. It was not pretty. Eventually, I found myself on the other side of a decade and a half of trauma and drama. I found a place of sobriety and contentment, in a richly rewarding relationship with my biological father, my sons and other extended family. This journey has been the defining aspect of my life. It has been a journey of truth seeking, reconciliation and reclamation of birthright.

Today, I am a student of psychology. I am fascinated by the dramatic increase in cases of misattributed paternity / parentage. (Often called NPE for Not Parent Expected or Non Paternity Event). The sudden popularity and availability of recreational DNA testing has completley rearranged the landscape. The veils of generations of secrets and lies are finally being stripped away and the truth easily accessible to anyone for the cost of a DNA test.

I am offering my services as a guide for individuals and families who find themselves grappling with the complex emotional and psychological challenges of late discovery. I have years of experience navigating this complex arena and have spent most of my adult life a a guide of one sort or another. My life experience is a deep well that I am able to tap into and offer as condensed wisdom, much of it hard earned, to others.

My intention is to assist others on their paths, to ease the difficulties and pain that are part and parcel of this journey, to facilitate understanding, compassion and forgiveness, and to achieve resolution in a manner that, while perhaps not a matter of days or weeks, is something less than decades.

Please feel free to reach out if you would like to know more about how my experience can help you through this time in your life.
