🎉 Big news! New Opportunity School for Women has been named a 2026 recipient of a grant from the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels!

This $10,000 grant will help us purchase a 15-passenger van, replacing the vehicle rental we've had to book for every single Immersive Retreat session. Our participants always travel together to outings and activities during their time with us, and this van will let us offset a growing cost while making sure that experience stays seamless for every group.

Thanks to the generosity of Kentucky Colonels across the Commonwealth and around the world, we're one step closer to putting resources toward our mission instead of rental fees. Thank you, HOKC, for investing in Appalachian and Kentucky women! 💙

We were deeply moved by this tribute to our founder, Jane Stephenson, who passed away on May 2. In 1987, Jane launched the New Opportunity School for Women in Berea with a simple but powerful belief: that struggling women deserved a real chance at a different life.

Nearly 40 years later, that belief has reached well over a thousand women across Kentucky, Appalachia, and beyond — and the ripple effects continue in the lives of their families and communities.

As NOSW board member Shana Goggins put it in this piece: "Jane's legacy wasn't built on charity as a distant gesture, but on a sustained, specific belief that struggling women deserved a real chance at a different life. That kind of legacy doesn't fade — it keeps working, long after the person who built it is gone."
