Learning together to manage pastures for profit We welcome members of all different skill levels interested in producing cattle, sheep, and goats.
The Grassroots Grazing Group is a nonprofit educational graziers networking group for producers, researchers, and educators learning together to manage pastures for profit. We host bi-monthly pasture walks and a yearly conference, as well as encouraging members to share information and ask questions on this page. If you're new to the group, please introduce yourself and tell us a little about your farming operation and interest in grazing.

Join the Arkansas Grazing Lands Coalition for a preview of this docuseries by Peter Byck, revealing the science of regenerative grazing compared to conventional farming, followed by a panel discussion with local farmers.

The Arkansas Grazing Lands Coalition will be hosting a Pasture Walk on Saturday, June 6th from 10 AM - 2 PM! The event will feature the Clover Leaf Kennel cattle and small ruminant operation in Rose Bud, AR.
Attendees will learn about:
🌱Grazing management systems and watering systems.
👀The Famacha Method to test sheep for anemia.
🐾 A sheep working dog demonstration!

The Grassroots Grazing Group hosted our first pasture walk of the season with Bryan and Kim Meldrum on their new farm near Durham, AR—and what a great start it was! With 140 acres of opportunity, including ponds, streams, wooded areas, and open pasture, the Meldrums are laying the groundwork for a South Poll cattle operation alongside plans for pigs and chickens.
About 20 folks joined us for a day full of learning, conversation, and connection. We walked the property to talk through fencing and waterline plans, forage and soil health, cattle working facilities, invasive plant species management, and strategies for healing erosion on steeper slopes. Throughout the day, producers shared their own experiences, offering ideas, encouragement, and real-world advice that will go a long way for the Meldrum family on their new farm.
TJ Hein from Savanna Springs, LLC shared his expertise on hydrology, native ecology, and land restoration and how it can complement an agricultural operation. From improving spring-fed ponds to redirecting road runoff to prevent erosion, his insights sparked a lot of great discussion!
More than anything, this pasture walk was a great reminder of the value of peer-to-peer learning. From technical guidance from local experts to shared producer knowledge, everyone walked away with something new. A huge thanks to the Meldrum family for their warm hospitality (and fantastic barbecue lunch!) and to everyone who made the day such a success!

Join us for the next GGG Pasture Walk on Saturday, April 11th in Fayetteville!
The Meldrums have recently purchased a farm and are excited to begin their rotational grazing journey as they work to restore and revitalize the land. Come share your knowledge, ask questions, and be part of a collaborative effort to develop practical guidance that will help this farm thrive.
A main meat dish will be provided for lunch. Guests are encouraged to bring a favorite side or dessert to share.

This will be hosted at Don Mayer's (5201 S Vaughn Rd, Bentonville, AR 72713), who has raised cattle in Benton County for many years. This event will gather producers, technical service providers, and conservationists to discuss forage management, w**d control, pond management, rotational grazing, and more!
Lunch is provided to all attendees, so having a headcount would be very helpful to make sure we cook enough burgers and hot dogs! Please register to attend at www.irwp.org/events/3-26-26.
