In July I was privileged to get to take my first trip to Washington DC with two of my, now former, students! We had a great time! Minus leaving with the city sickness 😒

We walked a TON the first day we were there (9 miles) but got to see some amazing things! Museum of the Bible (almost got to see the Dead Sea Scrolls, almost), Washington Monument from afar, the exterior of all the Smithsonians, the America 250 fair/celebration, an albino squirrel (Adalynn gave me a really hard time about how excited I was over that one), and more!

Throughout that week we got more amazing experiences! We got to stand outside The White House fence (which was pretty cool but it was still pretty far away), touring the Air and Space Museum, the American History Museum, our first subway ride (a little sketch...), visited the Capitol, asked about 7 officers of various organizations if they had any patches or coins (if you know Tye, you know this is not an optional thing when we travel) and we found one at the Capitol! Thanks Officer Z! We got to go INSIDE the Senate room (probably not the right name there) which is very hard to do and we were not allowed pictures so taking us at our word is the best we can do there. Got to go out on the deck (also not the right word I'm looking for, but you get the point) at the Capitol, picture for proof. Sooooo many amazing experiences. We even got some Georgetown Cupcakes, learned how to Door Dash and tried authentic Chinese.

While that highlights a lot of the fun stuff we did, the kids got some very humbling opportunities as well. They got to pack meal bags for a community in need, learn how to plan community outreach events and give back, and make friends from all over the US! We all had a blast, but we were happy to get back home to cheaper water, less cross walks, family and a little slower pace.

We would all like to thank our sponsors who helped make this possible!

We've been busy this summer! FFA sentinel, Clinton Morgan, spent the first few days of summer break at Tennessee Leadership Summit at UTK!

This is the second summer Polk County Farm Bureau has graciously sent a PCFFA member to this wonderful conference. We are very thankful to work with our community partners to provide students with outstanding opportunities to grow in their abilities!

Clinton gave this summit a 10/10 and highly recommended it. He made many friends that he stays in touch with regularly and earned some awards while he was there. Way to go Clinton!

Someone asked if we will be set up at the fair this year, and the short answer is YES!

Long answer - there's been several folks that have wanted to see chicken quarters on our menu for several years. This year we are adding them! But wait! Don't get upset, because we will continue to have our traditional halves as well! 😊

We have opted to add this as a TRIAL this year for several reasons. The quarters will be a little bit cheaper than the halves and that will hopefully prevent waste. We also wanted to have something that cooked a little faster, as we have encountered longer cook times with the halves because they have been so large the last few years, which is great for the consumer, but more time consuming in the cook department. Additionally, this heat y'all! It ain't no joke! The less time we have to be around the hot grills, the better. Plus that means it arrives at the fair early! πŸ˜‰

Oh! And the last reason, we've had some upset people over the years because we sold out so fast they didn't get a chance to get a plate. Each night we will have 40 halves and around, because it's based on pounds so we are estimating, 80ish quarters per night. This should add roughly 40 plates a night.

We look forward to seeing you at the fair! Please come support our FFA chapter and ag program at Polk County High School. We hope to sell out quick in this heat! πŸ₯΅

Orders due by NOON tomorrow (Thursday). Donuts will be in on the 6th.

This is our last fundraiser of the school year (I promise), one I was hesitant to even do, but the kids wanted donuts so the kids got donuts. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

Our goal is 300 boxes. Orders and money are due April 30th, so a pretty short sale. Also, I know someone will ask, because I am that person as well, no, we do not have chocolate burgers AKA chocolate iced kreme filled as an option, they do not offer that for fundraisers.

Orders should be back the first week of May with a solid date to be determined.

As always, thank you for supporting our kids and the ag program! πŸ₯°

P.S. if you ordered a t-shirt, those should be getting finished soon and someone will be in toug

Update: due to some smaller plants, we are postponing our Saturday sale to a later date TBD. If you were dead set on going tomorrow, send our page a message and we will work something out. Sorry for any inconvenience!

We will have a VERY SMALL plant sale this Thursday-Saturday.

Plant options from memory:
Sweet banana peppers
Early jalapenos
California wonder bell peppers
Kohlrabi (never planted prior, we have a ridiculous amount of trays, needed to use the seed)
Romas
Sweet basil
A few beefsteaks
No Cherokee purple 😭
Yellow squash (not sure the specifics on this but thinking it's straight neck)
Marketmore cucumbers
Straight 8 cucumbers
Another type of cucumber
Maybe a six pack of zinnias, maybe.
Unlabeled tomatoes and peppers

Forgetting some others, but not sure what.

Fill a flat for $15
