What could be more exciting than a group of lawyers and guns??!!! The entire staff of the Johnston County District Attorneys Office all taking a concealed carry handgun course together, that's what!!

CMT Consulting, LLC, recently taught this class to District Attorney Jason Waller and his talented staff, and although it was (almost unbearably) hot, I can say with absolute certainty that everyone still had a lot of educational fun.

Anyone in cyberspace who is contemplating obtaining their concealed carry permit, please seek out real training and vet the instructors before committing to the class. A huge shout-out to Jason and his crew for being great sports and making the heat a little more tolerable.

I hope to see you in a class again soon.

It was an absolute honor to present at the annual training conference for the NCASRO (North Carolina Association of School Resource Officers) last week in beautiful Cherokee, NC!! I had a blast, and firmly believe that I may have opened some eyes as to the most basic and important function of SRO's today.

I have heard that the conference had anywhere from 360 to 600 attendees and I have not confirmed a number as of yet however, the hall was full when I presented.

I would like to take the opportunity on this post to tell every last officer there how much I appreciate the job that they do each day.

Stay safe and I hope to see you in a class again soon!!!

CMT Consulting, LLC, has just finished another MRDS Instructor Course at South Piedmont Community College, using the superb firing range belonging to the Union County Sheriffs Office. The partnership that these two organizations have is unsurpassed in my experience, and it benefits law enforcement agencies in the area, and their citizens by proxy, beyond words.

Whether gun folks like it or not, whether folks agree with it or not, doesn't matter: MRDS on a pistol IS the way of the future, and unless you want to go the way of the dinosaur, fi****ms instructors had better get on board with it. A twenty-person class is a little larger than I try to train, just to allow me to give each student individual attention however, since all of the students were current fi****ms instructors I asked them to assist in being my eyes and ears and the class went off without a hitch.

CMT Consulting, LLC also had a Fast Fu***ng Five Challenge Coin winner in the class! Deputy Bryan Bailey with the Union County Sheriffs Office won his coin with a time of 6.27 and is now F.F.F Challenge Coin Holder #34. Great job Bryan! I'm including some pics from the class and some pics of Bryan, his time and his targets on the challenge. Just in case anyone isn't able to tell, Bryan has two holes touching on card #4, and three holes touching on card #5.

I hope to see you in a class soon!

Yet another successful class delivery for CMT Consulting, LLC and for the NC PPSB Fi****ms Trainers Course! We had 16 motivated students from NC and other States who were vying to become new fi****ms trainers. We spent all week at the East Campus of the North Carolina Justice Academy conducting training in the classroom and on the range, through some days of great weather and enduring some inclement weather as well.

The Private Protective Services Board (PPSB) certifies private security, armored car services and private investigators in NC. Every student instructor was successful and we now have a fresh group of professional fi****ms trainers to benefit the industry by properly teaching the above-mentioned entities.

I appreciate the individual, and concerted efforts of these students to do their best, and I genuinely hope the students built some relationships and memories with their fellow students that last forever. I'm including some photos of the class from throughout the week and I hope to see you in a class again soon!

CMT Consulting is as busy as can be this time of year!! I've just finished teaching the PPSB Long Gun Certification Course with so many familiar faces in the class, I taught at the NCTOA (NC Tactical Officers Association) Conference in Wilmington last week, and am now teaching at the NCAPI (NC Association of Private Investigators) Conference in Carolina Beach.

I still have other classes upcoming but will attempt to post as much as I can when I'm not actually teaching. I'm including some photos from the PPS Class along with this post and I hope to see you in a class soon!

This post is one that I never thought I would be forced to write, and one that I am anguished to post at all. My friend, my brother officer and my fellow fi****ms instructor, David Rosser, of the High Point North Carolina Police Department, has passed away this week at the young age of 42 years old, after suffering a medical emergency.

David successfully completed the Specialized Fi****ms Instructor Training Course with me in March of 2021, and almost everyone in his class has kept in touch since the conclusion of the training. David has also been there at other milestone events, has played bagpipes at law enforcement funerals and has attended even more classes that I taught before and after I retired from NCJA.

David had the biggest smile and the biggest heart anyone can imagine and the loss to his family, his friends and his community is immeasurable. Please think of David and his family when you happen upon this post and hold your loved ones tightly, as we never know what the future holds. I do not disagree with General Patton when he said we should thank God that such men lived instead of mourning their death, but that is awful tough advice to follow at times like this. Rest easy my brother, we have the watch from here.

While the attached video explains things pretty clearly, in case someone choses not to watch the video, this officer and his family could use your help. If you are able to assist, I know it would be appreciated. This has been a four-year ordeal for them that they should NEVER have been forced to deal with.

Folks of Duplin County, let me say that you will be making an excellent choice in choosing Eric Southerland as your next Sheriff. I've known Eric since 2004 when we worked some joint cases together while I was a Lieutenant at the Johnston County Sheriffs Office, and he has always been a hard-working law enforcement professional.

I've also had Eric in some of my classes during my 15 years as Senior Fi****ms Instructor at the North Carolina Justice Academy and, even as a police chief, he has continuously worked to keep abreast of any changes in law enforcement, and has taught countless new officers and deputies how to advance their careers, as he has done.

What you are getting with Eric is proven leadership and standards, which by and large, appear to be missing from a major portion of law enforcement agencies in todays times.

Whew! The last class of 2025 is now in the books for CMT Consulting, LLC! It has been a wonderful year for CMT Consulting, LLC and I certainly appreciate the confidence and trust folks have placed in me and in my classes. Please know that I have enjoyed each and every course, and student, I've encountered this year. I hope all of you can get some rest and will have a Merry Christmas!

This class was the Long Gun Instructor Certification Course for the North Carolina Private Protective Services Board and at its completion, we have 13 new shotgun/rifle instructors now active in the industry. This class is only a slight second in registration requests for PPSB, as this industry is growing in leaps and bounds here in NC and throughout the country, first place being the PPSB Fi****ms Instructor Training Course, that is required before registering to attend this Long Gun Instructor Certification Course.

We conducted the training at the East Campus of the North Carolina Justice Academy in Salemburg and trust me when I tell you that the weather did NOT cooperate with us however, all of us knew what we were getting into when we decided to become Fi****ms Trainers. It was wet and cold all week long but we made it through, while still managing to learn and have fun.

Here's looking forward to a great 2026, where I hope to see you in a class again soon!

How do you know you're doing it right? Oftentimes, people will let you know when you've made an impact on their lives. Most people are a pretty good judge of one's character and know when your heart is in the right place. Of course there is also the apropos adage that "real recognizes real."

One of the most satisfying things in my world is when these same folks who've recognized your genuine expertise during one interaction, then seek you out for more guidance in the future.

I've presented at State and National Conferences this year, and as a result, have several more opportunities to present in 2026. As of this writing I will be presenting at the North Carolina Association of Private Investigators Conference (NCAPI), April 21-22 in Carolina Beach, NC, and the North Carolina Association of School Resource Officers Conference, July 12-17 in Cherokee, NC.

I also have several more conference invitations that conflict with the scheduling of some of my classes however, I may be able to accommodate those requests if I can move some courses around. I hope to see you in a class or at a conference soon!
