Families, here is a helpful snack guide as schools prepare for the Arizona Healthy Schools Act.

The biggest takeaway: food packed from home for your own child is still okay, but anything brought to share with the class will need to meet the new requirements.

Please check labels carefully before sending classroom snacks, birthday treats, or celebration items to share. When in doubt, simple store-bought, individually packaged options are the safest choice.

Bobcat families, don’t forget about the upcoming PTO meeting!

Join us August 6 at 6:00 PM in the District Office Board Room. PTO is a great way to support our teachers, students, classrooms, and school community.

There is also a classroom challenge, and the classroom with the most parents who join PTO and attend the first meeting will win a treasure chest full of goodies!

Families, you may start hearing more about the Arizona Healthy Schools Act as schools prepare for the 2026-2027 school year.

This new law applies to schools that participate in federally funded or assisted meal programs. Beginning in the 2026-2027 school year, schools may not serve, sell, or allow third-party sales of foods that contain certain prohibited ingredients during the normal school day.

The prohibited ingredients include:

• Potassium bromate
• Propylparaben
• Titanium dioxide
• Brominated vegetable oil
• Yellow dye 5 and 6
• Blue dye 1 and 2
• Green dye 3
• Red dye 3 and 40

A few helpful things to know:

• Families may still pack lunches and snacks for their own child.
• Food brought from home should be for your child only and should not be shared with other students.
• Food shared with the class for birthdays, holidays, celebrations, classroom snacks, or special treats will need to follow the new requirements.
• Celebrations can still happen, we will just need to be more mindful about food items brought to share.

The goal is not to make things harder for families. We simply want to keep everyone informed as schools adjust to the new requirements.

Bobcat Club Hours Update

Families, we want to share an important update regarding Bobcat Club hours for the 2026-2027 school year.

When our previous information was shared, the plan was for Bobcat Club (aftercare) to close at 5:00 PM.

Since then, we have heard from families and community members, and we understand how important that extra hour is for working families. To better support the families who need us, Bobcat Club will continue with our previous 6:00 PM closing time.

Thank you to everyone who asked questions, shared concerns, and gave us the opportunity to better understand what our families need. We appreciate your patience and partnership as we continue preparing for the new school year. ❤️💙

Free & Reduced Meal Applications are open for the school year!

Families, we strongly encourage everyone to take a few minutes to apply. Even if you are not sure whether your family will qualify, there is no harm in submitting an application.

This application may help eligible families with school meal benefits, and it also helps our schools with important program funding and support.

Good news: you only need to complete one application per household, even if you have multiple children in Benson Unified School District.

Location update: Preschool Orientation will begin in the Benson Primary School Multi-Purpose Room. Families may enter through our brand new preschool entrance gate. We can’t wait to see everyone Tuesday at 4:00 PM!

Preschool Orientation is coming up!

Bobcat Citizen Preschool families are invited to join us on Tuesday, July 21 at 4:00 PM.

Come meet the staff, see the classroom, and learn more about the year ahead. We are so excited to welcome our Baby Bobcats and start the 2026-2027 school year together!
