After 33 yrs operating in central Oregon; I decided to sell my business and home and have moved to Texarkana AR. I've decided to work part time in the chimney and hearth industry. I've switched the company name to JWB enterprises. I'm still trying to figure out how to switch the name on my page.

We have changed our name. We are now JWB enterprises.

As the burning season winds down it might be a good time to sweep your chimney. That way if there's any repairs needed it will get done before the next busy season.

Here's why you need to sweep your chimneys.

Not only will regular chimney cleaning keep creosote buildup and soot from damaging your chimney, it can also reduce your exposure to carbon monoxide. Poor ventilation from clogged chimneys can increase carbon monoxide.

The chimney sweeps of Croatia and Poland wear a traditional uniform of all black with a top hat, and if you rub one of your buttons while passing a sweep it is considered to be good luck.

Creosote is a combination of smoke and gases emitted from the fire. Creosote can be a soot or it can be a substance that can be either hard or tar like. All forms of creosote are flammable and potentially dangerous.

If they were scared to climb into the narrow passageways, the master sweeper would give them a little “encouragement” by way of lighting a small fire.

According to the Chimney Safety Institute of American, open masonry fireplaces need to be swept at one-eighth of an inch of sooty buildup and sooner if there is any glaze in the system. This is considered enough fuel buildup to cause a fire.
