Our Empowered Childcare playgroups are revving up our immune systems and looking for a couple more playmates for our SW Co-Op!

As our Empowered Childcare Co-ops prepare to meet for the first time next week, we encourage all our families to rev up immunity! Although we are meeting outside or well-ventilated spaces the increased exposure to one another, will "reactivate" our immune systems. We recommend starting now to boost yours and your kids' immunity with extra vitamin C, elderberry, echinacea, and goldenseal. I dose my kiddos with Wellness Herbal Kids along with megadoses of Vitamin C. In addition, Astragalus Root is a powerful immune support. We've been out of contact with any virus for so long! What are you using to boost immunity as contact with community slowly increases? Please share with us!

Also, if you have Thursdays and Fridays 9-12 pm available, we are meeting at some parks in SW and would love a couple more members! Apply here: https://raisingrootedkids.com/empowered-childcare-co-op/

Roots Exploration Preschool invited our sweet students back for a final two-week summer program that started today. It was pure joy in turbulent times...

Although our formal preschool will not reopen this fall, cofounder Rhea Grogan has started an offshoot parenting community with Roots preschool values, called Raising Rooted Kids. She is organizing Empowered Childcare Co-Ops in Bend neighborhoods. Parents are invited to bring their toddler+preschoolers to a small parenting community to learn simple approaches to nurturing the very young, trade childcare, and play safely in outdoor settings. The NW Bend Co-Op is full but we have space in our SW Bend Co-Op. Check it out! https://raisingrootedkids.com/empowered-childcare-co-op/

The original intent of Kindergarten (“garden of children”) was to provide a space where children’s natural curiosity and desire to learn could be nurtured and developed. This was done through music, nature study, stories, and play. With this environment plus an attentive gardener, it was thought that children could blossom and bloom. A pretty lovely metaphor, right?

So why are most Kindergartens today such a grind? Placing academic pressures on five and six-year-olds that they are developmentally unsuited to tackle has life-long implications. Yes, they may learn how to read and subtract sooner, but at what cost?

Let’s bring Kindergarten back to its roots. 😉🌿Join us for our reservation-only open house on July 25th and 26th to learn how our Kindergarten program can serve your child. Contact us today to learn more and reserve your space.☀️

When you choose Roots Art & Exploration for your child’s Kindergarten experience, you and your Roots Child benefit through:

A small class size of just ten children with one lead teacher and one assistant teacher, your Roots Child gets customized, student-centered learning that meets their needs and nurtures their passions.

A full time program, running ‪8:30-2:30 Monday‬ through Thursday and ‪8:30-12:30‬ on Fridays, providing consistency and continuity for your Roots Child.

Developmentally appropriate curriculum means your Roots child won’t be memorizing subtraction flashcards or filling in bubble sheets, but will instead be immersed in a curriculum that speaks to their mind, body, and spirit, facilitating a love of learning that will last a lifetime.

At least 1-2 hours spent outside each day and all day on Wednesdays for our excursion day, your Roots Child will strengthen their connection with nature, build resiliency, and deepen their learning through emergent curriculum.

A safe place for your child’s educational, social, and emotional needs to be met as long as legally allowed to do so, as Roots has flexibility to innovate and modify based on state regulations and pandemic development.

After care through ARTdog’s After School Art Club program if you want to expand your Roots Child’s artistic side after school hours.

At Roots, your child will be supported in taking a playful approach to creating that celebrates discovery and places little emphasis on the final product.

Our integration of process art through the Roots Curriculum allows for deep learning of the content - learning that sticks with them past the end of the day, unit, and even school year.

The result? Your Roots Child will express themselves freely and think creatively, independent, and imaginatively, traits vital to their long-term success and well-being.

We’re hiring!

Roots + are looking for a full time lead teacher for our nature + art-based K/1 classroom.

This teacher will play a key role in offering education to children that develops their sense of wonder, curiosity and creativity, their relationship to their heart and body, and their connection to the natural world. Our micro school provides an intentional and enriching environment that honors the process of the whole child and de-emphasizes rigorous academics.

The Lead Teacher should be super imaginative, playful, and ready to jump in to create magical learning experiences for kids. Teachers must have experience working with children in a nurturing/creative/process-based and/or play-based environment, a background in art and/or nature education and the ability to lead, plan, create and teach classes that ignite curiosity, creativity, and wonder. Teachers must be able to take initiative, be flexible and create exciting lessons, while also being spontaneous and responsive to the unique needs and interests of each child. Finally, teachers must love good, messy fun!

“There is a door that has opened, a small opening for us to be able to hear nature over the din of the traffic and everyday rush of the human world. Now is the time to practice deep listening so that the messages can come through. What does the wild want to tell you?
