Many of you may be wondering, “What’s going on with the Bagel Maven?”
This past summer I experienced an injury that has led to significant chronic back pain. So my workshops are currently on pause as I address my health and hopefully get back to full working order.
As a result, my website is currently offline, but you can still reach me through social media if you have any questions or want an update on when I will resume workshops. I hope to see you all in 2026!

Here’s what my last two days looked like. Levain bagels this morning and yesterday I made two different focaccias: rosemary, oregano, and sea salt traditional style (with an extended mix straight dough) and gluten free with rosemary, oregano, and sea salt. Can you tell which is which??? This is my best gluten free focaccia yet. I bake gf for a close family member who has been trying to eat less gluten.
You may have noticed that there is not much happening with the Bagel Maven PNW posts lately. I had 3 compression fractures of my thoracic spine while trail running in late May. With persistent back pain on standing, I am still in recovery mode, but I will be back with more group workshops this fall. I am still currently booking private workshops. See y’all soon!

Whenever I travel I feel compelled to try the local bagel offerings. This is my third visit to Mt Bagel in Seattle.
While they are not NY-style bagels, they are delicious in their own right. Large, bulbous, adequately seeded bagels with soft and pillowy interior and a more open crumb than a NY-style bagel. I think they are using a sourdough, but the flavor is not sour like typical SF sourdough bread, it’s more earthy and complex (the way I like to make my wild yeast levain bagels as well). The scallion cream cheese is a must. I also schmear with salted Kerrygold for the first layer.
If you are in Seattle and wanting to try some of the better bagels in town, this is worthy of a stop. They only sell bags of bagels; they don’t slice; they don’t toast; they don’t schmear; it’s grab and go with pre-ordering recommended. https://www.mtbagel.com/
