****ATTENTION JAGUARS****

Jewell Elementary is incredibly excited to welcome the Missoula Children's Theatre back to our school AGAIN the week of April 20th-25th for the production of Sleeping Beauty!

The Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT), the nation’s largest touring children’s theatre, has been touring extensively for nearly 50 years now from Montana to Japan, and will visit nearly 1,100 communities this year with up to 44 teams of Tour Actor/Directors. A tour team arrives in a given town in their “little red truck” loaded with a set, lights, costumes, props and make-up, everything it takes to put on a play…except the cast. The team holds an open audition and casts 50-60 local students to perform in the production. The show is rehearsed throughout the week and two public performances are presented at the end of the week.

Students will be coming home from school next week with detailed information about the audition process on Monday, April 20th along with the permission slip required. This opportunity isn't required and is done after school hours. We want to give HUGE shout out to our fabulous R.E. Jewell Elementary PTO for making this opportunity a reality AGAIN! We couldn't be more excited for our students to have this amazing opportunity of the arts. Let's give them a warm welcome, Jaguars!

Thank you for allowing your child to audition for the Missoula Children’s Theatre’s production of Alice in Wonderland at R.E. Jewell Elementary today! We are beyond proud of our students who so courageously auditioned to be part of the show.

Please remember that the maximum cast size for this program is 50-60. There are many talented children with interest in the performing arts here in our community; there may not be a role for everyone who auditions. If your child is not cast in the show, remember that auditions do not always seem fair. With many students auditioning for a limited number of roles the decisions of the MCT Tour Actor/Directors are always very difficult.

Should your child not receive a role this time, we encourage you to consider the following:
• Give your child some time. Things might not seem nearly so bad tomorrow.
• Talk about it – what was their favorite part of auditioning?
• Discuss what they could do even better next time.
o They may choose to work on their singing and acting skills so that the next time they audition they will be even better prepared.
o Or, maybe they will decide that even though they enjoy going to the theatre they don’t have a driving desire to be on stage themselves.
• Talk about all of the activities they enjoy and feel success doing, and go do one of these activities!
How one responds to disappointment is a tremendous test of character. Children will look to you as an example of how to react. Compliment them for their efforts and for taking a risk by auditioning for the show!

Way to go, Jaguars!

***Today is the day***

The Missoula Children's Theatre's little red truck has arrived in Bend and will be at Jewell this afternoon. We are so excited!

The audition for the Missoula Children's Theatre production of Alice in Wonderland will be held TODAY Monday, April 7th at 2:30 pm in the Jewell school gymnasium. There are roles for those students in Kindergarten through 5th grade. Approximately 50-60 local students will be cast to appear in the show with the MCT Tour Actor/Director.
There is no guarantee that everyone who auditions will be cast in the play.
Students wishing to audition must arrive by the scheduled starting time and stay for the entire two-hour session. The first rehearsal (for only specific cast members) begins approximately 15 minutes after the audition. Parents are encouraged to arrive at the gym for pick at 4:30pm this evening to hear the cast announced and for those cast, they will be given a rehearsal schedule for the week.

This is a group audition–no advance preparation is necessary, but a smile never hurts. Students should just be ready to come and have a good time!A HUGE thank you to our amazing R.E. Jewell Elementary PTO for bringing the arts to our school community once again.

Let's see what you've got Jaguars!
