Long before our children took their first steps on this land, there were stories here.
Stories carried through generations. Languages spoken. Traditions shared. Communities raising children, caring for one another and passing down knowledge about the world around them.
On Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we honor the Indigenous peoples whose histories, cultures and contributions are an important part of the story of this land—and whose stories continue today.
As parents, grandparents, caregivers and educators, we have an opportunity to help children grow up knowing a fuller story.
We can fill their bookshelves with Indigenous voices. We can help them learn about the Native communities around them. We can make space for cultures and experiences different from their own to be seen, valued and respected.
The stories we share with children help shape how they see the world—and one another.
Today, and throughout the year, let’s make sure Indigenous voices are part of those stories. ❤️
