Aurora Waasakone Community of Learners AWCL is a public charter school in Bemidji, MN.

We serve 180 students in grades K-8 with a focus on diversity, inclusivity, outdoor education, and place-based learning. Our Mission is to provide students with the opportunity to actively engage in collaborative and purposeful learning experiences that go beyond the walls of the school. Minnesota’s unique history and rich, natural resources provide an educational foundation for teaching the value

of academic rigor, diversity and inclusivity, community responsiveness, and environmental stewardship.

On a separate note……the gardens we put in last spring are AMAZING!!!!!! We can’t wait for the kids to see how huge the sunflowers are and just how many tomatoes are growing!!! Wowza!

Join Our Team at AWCL! We are hiring GEN ED and SPECIAL ED teachers for the 26-27 school year!

Our school is built around an inclusive, relationship-centered approach where all students are valued and supported. We provide American Indian Education for all students, engage learners through place-based learning, and empower teachers to create meaningful social studies and science investigations connected to real-world experiences and our local community.

We are looking for educators who are creative, collaborative, student-centered, and excited to help shape engaging learning experiences for children.

The first Trout in the Classroom program in Minnesota was started at local Bemidji schools. It laid out the blueprint for other schools as the program spread across the state.
