NWIC Student Connections Program offers a holistic approach to student development through peer mentoring, academic coach advocacy, facilitated workshops, and activities. Through a three-tiered approach to student excellence, the Northwest Indian College Student Connections Program seeks to improve student retention, success, and graduation through peer mentoring, holistic advising, academic succe

ss training, and writing mentorship. With service throughout the NWIC extended sites, we work with students, staff, faculty and most importantly community, to identify learning strategies based on place and culture, while also serving to prepare students to identify their own version of success.

Monday, February 16 is Elizabeth Peratrovich Day.

Originally a state holiday in the state of Alaska, and recognized in 2023 by the U.S. Senate, Elizabeth Peratrovich Day celebrates the work of Elizabeth Peratrovich who worked with Alaska Native Sisterhood and Alaska Native Brotherhood to secure civil rights for Alaska Natives. It was heels on the ground effort by her and many other women who did the outreach with the members of the territorial legislature. The result was the passage by the Alaska Territorial Legislature of the Anti-Discrimination Act of 1945.
Elizabeth Wanamaker Peratrovich was Raven Lukaax.ádi clan of the Tlingit Tribe.

The holiday was established in 1988 to take place on February 16 each year. In February 2023, the U.S. Senate passed a resolution to nationally recognize the date as the National Elizabeth Peratrovich Day. The House of Welcome Cultural Arts Center recognizes the contributions of Elizabeth Peratrovich. In 2020, Elizabeth’s image was added to the Native American $1 coin.

Come shop for Valentine's Day gifts, support local artists and vendors and celebrate the season with NWIC!

Our SEB has been hard at work on decorations and vendors are setting up; you won’t want to miss this!
