I recently got this amazing profile done by Dasani Decoded and I love it! I've been meaning to change my profile, and this was perfect.
It was fun brainstorming some cool Math equations and expressions to include in the picture. What's your favorite Math equation or expression?

Recently, I've seen this Math problem being shared multiple times. I like it since it's a pretty nice example of working with areas without knowing side lengths. During my time in Math Olympiads, I recall there was emphasis on a triangle's median. It has many nice properties, including dividing the triangle's area in half. I like this kind of problems, so I decided to do a MATLAB animation to show the magic of medians. Which is your favorite geometry construction with nice properties?
Where did the missing black square go? How do 2 triangles with the same base and height have different areas? The trick here is that they're actually not triangles, but quadrilaterals. This is known as the Missing square puzzle, invented by Paul Curry in 1953. I love this kind of puzzles because using optical illusions, they trick your brain, but with some Math, you can see the trick. I did a MATLAB animation to show the Math behind this trick. Do you know any other similar math puzzle? =)

Pi Mu Epsilon (PME) is the U.S. honorary national mathematics society. Who would've thought that PME and the CWRU Math Club would become a huge part of my undergrad life? Before college, I would've never seen myself taking leadership roles, but there was something about Math Club that made me want to try it out. After 1 semester as Math Club secretary, 2 years as Math Club president and 1 year as PME president, I can say it was an amazing experience!
I love seeing the Math community keep growing. It's an awesome group of people I know I can count on and we would always have a good time! Not only did I get to meet some amazing people, but Math Club and PME also made me feel more confident about my leadership skills. Thank you everyone, friends, faculty and staff, who made this possible and for being part of Math Club and PME!

Apart from my 2 diplomas, the day before graduation, I also received awards from both of my departments! From the Math department, I received The Chair's Award for contributing to the intellectual life of the majors program. From the Computer Science department, I received The Andrew R. Jennings Award for excellence in computer engineering and science. I also received The John Schoff Millis Award, awarded to the senior with the best academic record in the College of Arts and Sciences, and the bowl in front of me engraved with the award's name. I'm so thankful for receiving these awards! Both departments have helped me so much, and I'm glad I was able to meet so many amazing faculty and staff in both departments =)

In 2012, I participated in the IMC (International Mathematics Competition), representing Mexico. It was a wonderful experience I wouldn't change for anything. This year, there was not enough funding to fly the students to the competition in South Africa. However, Guillermo del Toro offered to pay for the flights of the whole team (shown in the tweet below)! This is just amazing, I'm so thankful =D If you want to read a news article about this, check out my website =) Let's go Mexico 🇲🇽

4 years ago, I came to college in a different country, living alone for the first time ever! After 4 years full of stress, but surrounded by amazing people, I'm glad to say that I finally graduated summa cm laude (4.0 GPA) from CWRU with 2 degrees: a Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics and a Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science =D I couldn't have made it without the support of my family and so many friends and professors! I'm glad I lived through this experience and made so many memories that I really treasure. Now, for my next step, I'll take a break before going to Seattle to start my new job as a Software Engineer at Microsoft =)

This is my first weekend that doesn't feel like a weekend since I'm finally done with undergrad! 2 days ago, I presented my last assignment as an undergrad: my Math senior capstone titled "Skeletons of Generic Polynomials and Rational Maps". Even though I worked with my advisor, Dr. Joel Langer, for a year, I was still hesitating about presenting my work as a capstone, but I'm so glad I gave it a try =)

I presented again on my MATLAB animations, but this time, at the Lightning Talks from Hacker Society. You know you really love sharing your presentation when you present on it twice. I'm glad I had the chance to share the Math behind my animations and show that Math is beautiful. If you ever have time, you should check out their Lightning Talks! Thank you Hacker Society at CWRU =)

Did you know that a dodecagon with circumradius 1 has area 3? Recently I got the book "Proof without Words III" written by Roger B. Nelsen. The book has so many amazing proofs, but my favorite ones are the geometrical ones. I animated one of these proofs using MATLAB just for fun, and this was my result =) Do you know any other geometrical proof without words?

Have you ever gotten 16 free Math books? On the last Math conference I went to, they were giving out free Math books to students. At the beginning I just took a few, but at the end of the conference, after noticing there were still many books available, I took many more. I have always wanted to build a shelf of Math books, so this is a great start =) what's your favorite Math book?
