This week, current and incoming parents came together at our Parent Mixer to build connections in anticipation of the upcoming school year. Families were welcomed by impressive performances from our Chamber Music group before heading into the gym for conversation bingo, keychain making, and writing notes of encouragement for students to see on the first day of school. It was wonderful to see parents quickly connecting and continuing to strengthen the Mountaineer community we value so much! We are excited to welcome so many new families next year and are grateful for the families who continue to help our community thrive.

3Kr Learning Expert Teacher Ms. Haugen celebrated the start of summer in Connections class with a “campfire” gathering featuring s’mores, student-written stories, mini talent shows, and campfire songs. After learning about storytelling traditions from cultures around the world, students shared their own stories and reflected on key narrative elements like theme, setting, characterization, and conflict resolution. It is wonderful seeing how our talented instructors exercise their creativity to engage students in learning!

Last Saturday, our staff got to experience the incredible energy of a Seattle Sounders match while supporting Mr. Escobar, our band and music teacher who performs with the Sounders’ official band, Sound Wave! We had such a great time chanting, cheering, and celebrating one of our own. Go Mountaineers (and Sounders!) 💙💚⚽

Ms. Rieger’s 5Cr Classics students took part in a hands-on “Shark Tank”-style activity to explore the achievements of ancient India. They pitched innovations like cotton, Ayurveda, zero, dentistry, urban planning, and the decimal system, explaining their purpose, benefits, and economic impact in an attempt to “sell” them to the Sharks. This fun classroom learning experience helped students think critically and prepare for their unit essay, while having plenty of laughs along the way. Special thanks to our volunteer Sharks, Ms. Hinton and Mr. D!

Our school community had a fantastic time celebrating Wellness Week! Students engaged in meaningful activities designed to support their well-being, build connection, and bring a little extra joy to the school day. On Wilderness Wednesday, students spent the afternoon enjoying the outdoors: from hiking trails and playing badminton to simply getting outside and enjoying time with friends and family. Taking time to move, play, and connect with nature is an important part of wellness, and we loved seeing our school community make the most of our Wellness Week half day!

It was a fun day in the sun as our Mountaineer community came out for the Summer Kick-Off Carnival! Between the popcorn, cotton candy, and food truck treats, students could get their faces painted, request balloon toys, and play a variety of games. We also featured some of our extracurricular and summer programs. What a great way to end the week!
