A bonus for the meteorology students visiting the station earlier in August - Dark Sky Sanctuary designation means fantastic views of the Milky Way and Perseid meteor shower. When did they get any sleep!? Pic: Maya Merren

A STORM hit the station recently, in a good way. Students from CMU and the University of Northern Colorado traveled to Beaver Island to participate in a field research experience, Student Training for Observational Research in Meteorology (STORM). Led by Dr. Jason Keeler and Dr. Daria Kluver, along with Dr. Wendi Flynn (UNCo), students worked to design and execute experiments using weather balloons, the mobile mesonet, drones and radiosondes, as well as other equipment, boosting confidence and building community among this budding group of meteorologists. The night skies over Beaver Island have given amazing views recently of the Milky Way and the Perseids meteor showers.
