FYI.

It looks like some of the legal landscape surrounding snowmobiling has changed in MN.

Plan accordingly.

To add to this...there are also trees down from the recent high winds.

Ride accordingly.

In Crow Wing and Southern Cass Counties we received 2” to 3” of new snow. Unfortunately our base is completely gone plus lakes and swamps are no longer safe in areas. Last week clubs began closing gates so if you choose to ride use extreme caution.

Trail update:

Went for a ride today just to see how far we could get and the trails in the woods are holding a surprising amount of snow, and they're in pretty good shape overall.

The trails in the woods are so well-groomed that this person must have thought it was a road...so I guess compliments to the groomer operators for doing such a great job this year. 😆👍

I marked the spot on the map where the vehicle is, roughly, just in case it's still there after dark tonight. Be sure to watch for it if you're out that direction.

If you get out of the woods, trails turn terrible pretty quickly. Ditches, lakes, and swamps hardly have any snow left in them and keeping the sleds cool and slides lubricated was quite the challenge in those places.

Just to elaborate on how the warm weather is affecting things.

Be safe out there.

Well, things have changed quite a bit in a matter of days, per usual for this season unfortunately.

The warm temps both yesterday and today have put quite the hit on the trail conditions. Lots of areas are bare, and almost everything is crusty ice in exposed areas.

Trail conditions went from "good" to "poor" in a hurry.

We need more snow. The forecast isn't looking great with temps in the thirties for daytime highs and not much for snow in the forecast.

We picked up 2-3" of fresh snow overnight.

Trails are in fair to excellent condition for the most part.

Open areas, lakes, and some swamps are wind blown but rideable.

The next few days should be great riding before the warm-up on Thursday.

The groomer was out yesterday making the best of what we have for the upcoming weekend.
