Be sure you are prepared this hurricane season!

Hurricane season starts today!

Sandra May, AgCenter nutritionist and registered dietitian, said when preparing for a hurricane, keep foods on hand that do not have to be refrigerated before or after opening, will not spoil over a period of a few days, require little to no preparation and can be prepared without electricity.

Carol Friedland, director of the AgCenter LaHouse Research and Education said to remember the letter “s” for home projects. She said to inspect shingles, soffits, seals, shutters and surroundings.

Preparation also means getting pets and livestock ready for a storm. AgCenter veterinarian Christine Navarre said animals should have vaccinations and a checkup if necessary.

Every dollar spent is a problem solved!

The LSU system has surpassed $600 million in research expenditures for the 2024–25 year, marking continued growth in innovation and impact across the state and beyond.

The LSU AgCenter is proud to be part of that progress. Through initiatives like the Mississippi River Invasive Species Consortium, we’re working with partners across the region to detect, manage and prevent invasive species that threaten agriculture, natural resources and communities.

By connecting research with real-world solutions, the AgCenter continues to support Louisiana producers, protect our environment and strengthen the state’s economy.
