Ambre Placide from worked with LSU researchers to sequence the full set of expressed RNA from an alpine lake copepod (related to 🦐) called Cyclops abyssorum tatricus for the first time. It wasn’t easy - these tiny organisms have large and highly repetitive genomes - but the effort paid off. The team identified genes these copepods amplify to resist cold and survive extreme UV rays! ☀️❄️

Dr. Kaelyn Fogelman likes to joke that she spent 10 years in college to spend her days digging in the mud… but it’s all in the name of crawfish research!

As 's newest crawfish and aquaculture expert, Kaelyn is studying the hidden diversity of native crayfishes in Louisiana as well as exploring how to support farmers of red swamp crawfish to raise up big juicy crawfish for those spring and summer boils! 🦞

She’s presenting at the LSU Research Science Cafe on Tues April 28, 5pm at Pastimes restaurant in Baton Rouge! Come out and learn!

For any two people, 99.9% of their genetic sequence is the same. But that 0.1% difference, combined with added layers of complexity that contribute to how genes are expressed, is extraordinary.

Michelle Osborn at LSU School of Veterinary Medicine and her team have created a 3D model, built from CT imaging data of a horse, that can animate working postures before and after a whole-body exercise regimen. The model can illustrate how interventions can correct harmful movement patterns and the forces they place on specific joints, before long-term injuries occur!
