Calling all science, history, and social studies educators! This year's Wetland Education Teacher Workshop (WETshop) will be July 13-18. Don't miss out on this exciting professional development opportunity!🌊

This 6-day coastal awareness workshop provides participants with an in-depth look at issues related to wetland ecology and coastal land loss in Louisiana. Workshop experiences provide ideas to incorporate Louisiana phenomena-based learning in classrooms at all grade levels.

First and Fifth graders teamed up to help restore Louisiana's coastlines by working with bitter panicum grass, a crucial native plant for coastal protection. First graders took on the task of trimming the grass leaves, while the fifth graders carefully cut the segments around the nodes, preparing the plants for propagation. These grass plugs will be used in a Coastal Roots field trip, where students will plant them to support efforts in preserving and restoring the state's fragile coastlines. This hands-on project allowed students to connect with nature and contribute to environmental restoration.
