It is our pleasure to share the news that Malcolm Gauld has been selected by Bowdoin College as the 2025 Distinguished Educator, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to education. The award will be presented during Bowdoin College Reunion Weekend (May 29–June 1, 2025). We invite you to share in our enthusiasm for this prestigious award.

For his extraordinary contributions demonstrating remarkable vision, resilience, and innovation during his career as a teacher, Malcolm W. Gauld, a member of the Class of 1976 and parent of a member of the Class of 2014, has been chosen to receive the 2025 Distinguished Educator Award.

For forty-five years, Malcolm Gauld has served as a history teacher, coach of championship teams in four different sports, and head of school. He is currently executive director of the Hyde Institute, an organization he founded in 2018 to design, create, and share character-based learning opportunities with school communities across the country. The Institute’s first offering, the Hyde Discovery Process, is a reinvented homeroom model designed to create and maintain a dynamic and inspiring school culture.
