Every mission starts somewhere 🌎

Welcome to Ground to Global, a new series highlighting the Airmen and teams who help get the B-52H Stratofortress off the ground.

Before the engines start, Plans and Programs (XP) are working behind the scenes. The team develops and maintains plans that help the wing prepare for different missions and operational needs. XP personnel help synchronize the wing during exercises and real-world operations by coordinating information, plans and resources across different organizations.

It takes a team to move the mission from ground to global. Stay tuned as we take you further through the process!

Reminder: THE WATCH: America’s Nuclear Mission will be shown Sept. 3 at noon for anyone with base access.🎥

The docuseries offers a behind-the-scenes look at the U.S. military’s global nuclear deterrence mission, spanning operations across the air, land and sea. The screening provides Airmen and their families a deeper understanding of the people and operations that directly support Air Force Global Strike Command and U.S. Strategic Command.

Ticket information is available through your First Sergeant. Please ensure you request a ticket for each individual attending in your group. Tickets will also be available at the door.

*Viewer Advisory: This film features scenes with Col. Greg “Evil” Watson and may be emotionally difficult for some viewers. Chaplains will be available throughout the event for anyone who would like support.

“Rupert the Roo” has begun the next chapter of its journey.

Following the completion of disassembly at Barksdale Air Force Base, the B-24 Liberator has departed for specialized paint and restoration facilities.

Once that work is complete, the historic World War II bomber will make its way to its new home at the National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force in Pooler, Georgia, where it will be reassembled and placed on public display.

Making memories beyond the mission

Airmen, families and friends gathered at Barksdale Air Force Base for a Hunt Fish Feed event, enjoying an evening with barbecue, games, music and friendly competition.

Our Explosive Ordnance Disposal team will be conducting controlled detonations tomorrow, 28 August, from 5:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

U.S. Army Command Sgt. Maj. Jo Naumann, command senior enlisted leader, U.S. Strategic Command, visited Barksdale AFB and met with leaders and Airmen from the 2nd Bomb Wing. The immersion included a 2nd BW mission brief, a tour through the Weapons Load Training facility and a close-up look at the B-52H Stratofortress.

The visit provided Naumann a firsthand look at Barksdale’s role in the nation’s nuclear deterrence mission and highlighted the Airmen and capabilities that enable the wing to remain ready to project global combat power.

Over 150 cadets from local high schools visited Barksdale Air Force Base for a career fair where they engaged with Airmen from various units in the 2nd Bomb Wing. The career fair demonstrated the United States Air Force’s commitment to inspiring and recruiting the next generation of Airmen and leaders.

The event strengthened connections between Airmen and the community while providing cadets with firsthand insight into the diverse career opportunities and missions within the Air Force.
