Working on my genealogy files, I came across this photo from the Journal News taken 6/23/62. Mrs. Anne Conklin, was the mother of one of my younger best friends in the late 'forties and early 'fifties, Lillian Conklin. Her brothers were good friends with my brother, Ronnie - Bob, Bill, and Steve. Lillie and I had many fun experiences - hanging out in the cemetery on Germonds Road (near Bardonia Road), family picnics in her backyard on Huested Lane, with lots of singing along with guitar players and exploring the countryside on our bikes. - Judy Schefcick Martin

There was discussion on Rockland County Back in the Day about Bardonia School and Mr. Stephen Garrison, our principal in 1950 - 1952. He was very young when he passed away.It's not too late to say "Rest in Peace, Mr. Garrison."

I’m sorrier than I can say that my childhood friend Margaret Stevens Grunwald passed away this morning. She and I were in Bardonia Elementary school together - she in second, me in Kindergarten even though she was just one and one-quarter years older. We were together in the Bardonia Ladies bowling league, the 4-H where she was a leader, and a member of the Mount Hope Monitor staff. I attended her wedding to Norman, and watched her kids grow up. She moved away from Rockland County and we did too. Guess what? Some years later we met up in, of all places, Otisville, NY. Then she moved to Tennessee and I moved to Florida. And guess where we met again? On Facebook. The next time we will meet will be in Heaven. God bless you, Margaret, and your family. May you Rest In Peace. -- Judy Schefcick Martin

I just finished watching "The Great Caruso" and found it just as entrancing as when I'd seen it in 1951 at Radio City Music Hall with my classmates. Our brave principal, Mr. Stephen Garrison, herded us there (I'm sure with some supportive parents), then to the Horn and Hardart Automat (my first time, but not last) and finally to a tour of the NBC Studios. Little did I know that my future husband would some day be employed there. Six years before that was my first visit to the Statue of Liberty. Those excursions began my lifelong love of the Big Apple. Does anyone else remember that day? - Judy Schefcick Martin
