When my kids were younger, reading a loud and lots of free play was our primary homeschooling. We even got in our math with read alouds and hands on practice. This is a fantastic list for ways to engage your children, especially if you are new to reading a loud and need to build attention. Our favorites were to take a book outside and beeswax or play dough to keep the hands busy. Reading a loud is still a family favorite, even for our teenagers.

Whole Child Learning WV's first class offering. The Capable Child class that will run two days a week for an hour a day. It will be for 4-6 year old children. The class will include circle time with a read aloud, targeted phonics work, and centers that align with The Capable Child Framework that I have developed. I will be sharing more about that soon on the Whole Child Learning WV FB page. The class will run as a monthly commitment starting in September 2026 and each month will build on previous months when it comes to phonics and number sense work. If you have any questions, please let me know. Sign ups will start soon. Class size will be limited to ensure quality instruction.

Hi and welcome to Whole Child Learning. Whole Child Learning is a gentle tutoring and early learning center created to support children and families in the Barboursville, WV area. Led by a certified teacher, we offer calm, encouraging instruction with a focus on reading foundations, confidence, and curiosity.
Every child learns differently, and our goal is to meet each student where they are through patient, child centered support. Whether your child needs help building early literacy skills, extra guidance with schoolwork, or a nurturing learning environment, Whole Child Learning is here to help.
